Wellbeing Warriors 2024-2025

A lovely warm welcome to our newly appointed Wellbeing Warriors. Following our class vote, we are pleased to announce that Desmond, Eliza, Alice and Darcy are going to lead all our new initiatives in school including supporting with our WOW travel plan which will continue this year. We have made the challenge much more achievable by offering the children who can’t walk to school the opportunity to take part in the 1k once a week with their class teacher instead and this will count as their walk once a week and ability to gain the monthly badge. Please keep your eyes peeled for upcoming events.

Year 4 Picture News Big Celebration Assembly

This morning we got the chance to take part in a virtual Picture News Big Celebration Assembly. We started with a picture which we had previously looked at in our class worship on Wednesday which showed the volunteers that had come together to clean up after the recent riots. We linked this to how we serve our school community and discussed British values. We always make sure that we welcome our community by showing our 4 B’s. Following this we heard from Boston St Nicholas School in Lincolnshire who highlighted how we can shine our light in so many different ways . It was lovely to share this special time to reflect and pray and we look forward to highlighting how we really do matter within our special school community.

Year 4 PE - Team Building and Problem Solving

To start off our new PE journey in Year 4 we had a one off lesson on team building and problem solving. We split the class into four equal groups which each group designated a “leader’. They then relayed a set of instructions to their team so that they could tackle various problems and work collaboratively. Each team actively encouraged each other and showed great will and determination to overcome each problem. It was great to see them discussing tactics and applying different approaches within groups. Next we look forward to starting our Boccia and Handball units and hope to build on the many successes of today's lesson.

Year 4 Geography - Where is the Amazon Rainforest?

In our first geography lesson of the year we looked at where the Amazon rainforest is in terms of continent and where it sits with reference to the equator and both tropics. The children worked hard to establish which countries the Amazon covered and then they moved on to labelling all seven continents, equator and tropics on a world map. The children used the atlases confidently and worked well in pairs to label accurately.

Year 1 Science- Grouping Animals

Today in Year 1, the children made some observations about animals. The children noticed various things such as some animals having feathers and some not, some having hair or fur and some not, some having ears but some having earholes, some having scales and some not, some being patterned and some not and so on. Year 1 then used their observations to sort a group of animals in their own way. Next lesson, the children will build on this to sort the animals into their animal groups such as mammals or reptiles.

Year 1 Phonics- Phonics Bingo

Today in Year 1, the children took part in some phonics activities. First of all, they looked for sounds that Miss Flynn read out to them such as b for bag, i for insect and qu for queen. This was a great way of getting some practise in using our sound mats after the six week holidays and reminding ourselves of the pictures and actions that go with each sound. Year 1 then enjoyed a couple of games of phonics bingo. They had 6 sounds and had to listen carefully to see if they had it. It was a great way of revising the sounds that the children had learnt when they were in Reception.

Year 1 Art- Warm and Cool Colours

In their art lesson, Year 1 explored warm and cool colours. They then applied this knowledge to complete an activity where they had to sort some landscapes by the colours that had been used within them (warm or cool). The children could also choose to complete an extra activity. This was to colour a picture in and represent the warm part of the picture with colours such as orange, red and yellow and the cool part of the picture with colours such as blue, green and purple. For example, the children coloured the ocean in cool colours but a sunrise in warm colours. Year 1 will be using their understanding of warm and cool colours when they come to create their own landscape in a few weeks time.

Rev Ben’s Worship- Trust

Rev Ben welcomed us back to school by reflecting on our school holiday and what we were most looking forward to this school year. He then told us the Bible story about Abraham going on a journey but he didn't know where he was going but he put his trust in God. Rev Ben said that our life can be a wonderful journey if we put our trust in God and remember that he is always with us. We then discussed with our partners how we can make the most of this year and live life in all its fullness. We finished with a lovely back to school blessing and sang a special back to school song.
