PE and Sport play a very important part in the life of St Barnabas CE Primary Academy and at least two, one hour sessions per week, are dedicated to physical activity in the curriculum. We believe that physical education and sport contribute to the holistic development of young people and through participation in sport and physical education, young people learn more about key values such as teamwork, fair play and respect for themselves and others.
There is significant evidence to show the positive effects of sport and exercise on children’s physical health, growth and development. Furthermore, sport also provides a healthy environment for young people to learn how to deal with competition and how to cope with both winning and losing.
The PE and Sport Premium Grant provides additional funding to schools to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer, to ensure all students achieve a good level of physical and emotional well-being.

PLATINUM SCHOOL GAMES MARK!
We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games PLATINUM Mark Award for the 2023/24- 2024-25 academic years.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
We are extremely proud of our pupils and staff for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including our Sports Leaders and staff volunteers who made our competitions possible.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
