Rocksteady Concert
We were so immensely proud of our Rocksteady rock stars this morning for their amazing performances in their first rock concert. They have only been practising for the last 6 weeks and they blew us away with their fabulous talent and confidence! We were honoured to have a special visit from Mr Mayor Brian and we hope he enjoyed the concert. It was fantastic to see the whole school encouraging our rock stars and joining in with enthusiasm to all of the songs. Thank you Jess from Rocksteady for all of your hard work in creating our wonderful rock bands. The video will be shared shortly. A new block of Rocksteady sessions will be available after Christmas. If you would like your child to be a rock star, please visit here: https://www.rocksteadymusicschool.com/ and also see the flyer that your child will be bringing home this week.
Whole School Worship: Joy at Advent
This week, our advent theme is JOY. We learned about the joy of Jesus’s birth and how we can bring joy into the lives of others this Christmas. We looked at the John Lewis advert about the man in the moon and how the little girl brought joy to the man, who had been very lonely. We also watched an alternative to the original advert about a girl searching for God and when she almost gave up looking, he sent to her his greatest gift: his son, Jesus. We finished with a look at all of the ways our classes have been bringing joy to each other and the community, including litter picking and singing in the local care home and reflected on how we can bring joy to to others this Christmas.
Year 5 - Badminton
Today, the children continued improving their badminton techniques, focusing on refining their grip, footwork, and stroke accuracy. They practiced holding rallies, showing noticeable improvement in their control and coordination. As their confidence grew, the rallies became more competitive, with many children successfully keeping the shuttle in the air for sustained periods.
Year 5 - Science Experiment
Today, the children participated in a science investigation to test the differences between solutions, mixtures, and solvents. They began by making predictions about which substances would dissolve and which would not, forming mixtures. During the experiment, the children tested sugar, coffee, and tea leaves by mixing them with water. The children observed how sugar dissolved completely, creating a clear solution, while coffee dispersed evenly but left a cloudy mixture. Tea leaves, however, did not dissolve, instead floating or sinking to the bottom, forming a mixture. After conducting the tests, they carefully recorded their observations and results, comparing them to their initial predictions.
Year 2 - D.T. - Hand Puppets
The Year 2 class have done a fantastic job creating their Christmas hand puppets over the last few weeks. Some have found it a bit of a struggle but with perseverance they have all managed to sew their puppets. This week we have put the finishing touches on so they are ready for our Christmas fair.
Reception: Elf Workshop
Reception class have been busy little Elves making Christmas decorations ready for the Christmas Fayre. The children chose their own design and painted their wood slices as either Santa, an elf or a snowman. The children then added googly eyes and some festive string so they can be hung on their Christmas trees. The children will be able to buy their decorations for £2 at the Christmas Fayre.
Year 2 - Science - Personal Hygiene and Bacteria
Today for Science we have had an experiment to see how washing our hands can help to stop the spread of germs. We used pepper to represent germs and sprinkled some into a bowl of water, then, the class used dish soap on their fingers to repel the “germs”.
Reception: Bubble Prayers
At the end of our school day, Reception class lit our candle and signed the holy trinity. We then burnt some Frankincense which was lovely and calming for all of the children. This week, for Blackburn Diocese's year of prayer, we focussed on bubble prayers. We discussed what we were thankful for. Some of the children's responses were God, the Holy Spirit, Jesus, parents, teachers and friends. It was lovely for the children to stop and reflect which aided them to explore their own spirituality.
Year 3- Design Technology- Christmas themed pouches
Year 3 have been busy in Design Technology this term, creating their very own pouches and building on skills they’ve learned in previous years. They’ve practised sewing a running stitch, keeping their stitches neat and making sure both ends were securely knotted. They carefully prepared and cut fabric using a template, stitched the pieces together, and creatively decorated their pouches with the materials provided. It’s been amazing to see how much effort they’ve put in, tackling challenges along the way and improving their skills with every step. Now, they’re excited to show off their fantastic designs at the school Christmas Fair. Well done, Year 3 – your hard work has paid off!
Year 3- Maths- Making arrays using counters
This week in Maths, Year 3 mathematicians have been deepening their understanding of arrays by working with counters. They’ve practiced arranging counters into rows and columns, exploring a variety of combinations. Using concrete materials has made their learning both engaging and enjoyable, helping to reinforce key concepts effectively.
Year 3- Science - Functions of a muscle
Today in Science, Year 3 matched animals to their skeletons and investigated the structure and function of muscles, including their classification, location, and role in movement. As part of their learning, they created a model arm using cards and elastic to demonstrate how muscles work. By using cards for the bones and elastic bands to represent the tendons, the children were able to visualise how muscles pull on bones to create movement.
Reception: Road Safety
Our Reception children learnt how to cross the road safely today. They stopped, looked and listened and then let Mrs Wilkinson know when it was time to cross safely. They were all very sensible, well done!
