Year 1 English: Question Marks
In our English today, we looked at sentences that need question marks. Year 1 understood that if a sentence is telling you something then it just needs a full stop, but if a sentence is asking something it needs a question mark. We practiced using actions for question marks and then they independently fixed some sentences in their books with the correct punctuation. Well done Year 1!
Year 2 RE- A Visit From Rev Ben
Today, Year 2 had a very special visit from Rev Ben as part of their learning about the Bible in RE. Everyone really enjoyed the visit and learned some great things! We discovered that the Bible can be like a torch, honey, and gold. Just like a torch helps us see in the dark, the Bible can guide us through life. It’s like honey because it’s full of sweet stories about kindness and love, and it’s like gold because it’s so precious and important to Christians. Rev Ben answered lots of our questions, such as when he got his first Bible, what his favourite Bible story is, when he became a Christian and a Vicar, and whether he reads any other books besides the Bible. He also brought in three of his own Bibles for us to look at—one he received when he became a Vicar, which has a tiny pearl inside, one he reads with his family, and another that has a different part to read each day. We would like to say a big thank you to Rev Ben for visiting us and helping us learn more about the Bible and why it is so special to Christians.
Year 2 English- Features of an Information Text
Year 2 had great fun playing a game of "Fastest Finger First" to spot the features of an information text. They searched for headings, subheadings, captions, labels, and facts— and did a fantastic job! This activity helped them get ready to write their own information texts about an animal of their choice, using all of these important features. Before they begin writing, they will gather facts by exploring non-fiction books and using the contents page, just as they’ve been learning. To finish off their project, they’ll be creating their own quiz questions to test each other’s knowledge!
DPSSA Girls Football League
This evening we saw the start of the DPSSA Girls Football League at Witton. We started our first game against Avondale and came away with a 3-0 win. Next we had Holy Trinity where we won 5-0 and felt like we were on a wining streak! Our final game was against St Edwards where the girls played really well in a tough game which was super close the whole way through but it ended in a last minute goal and St Edwards won 1-0. A great start to the league - well done Team B!

Year 6 French
In French this week, Year 6 learned the names of the different rooms in our homes. They learned a song to help them remember the new vocabulary and then were tasked with labelling a diagram of a house. They also played a guessing game, where one child drew a picture of a room in a house and the rest of the class had to guess which room was being drawn and give their answer in French.
Year 6 Art
Year 6 are really enjoying their current art unit: "Making Our Voice Heard." This week, the children continued their work on symbolic imagery, using names and symbols from the Maya Tzolkʼin calendar that the children felt were a representation of themselves and their personalities. They created two pieces of artwork using these names and symbols, one with charcoal and one with coloured oil pastels, using masking tape to create the lettering.
Year 4 - RE: Exploring Artefacts Used in Buddhist Prayer
On our quest to understand what prayer is to people of different faiths, the Year 4 class decided they wanted to explore what artefacts Buddhists might use to pray. The children examined their artefact and did an observational drawing of it. They then recorded how they thought it might be used and formulated some questions specific to their artefact.
The W.O.W. Group - Lego Club Training
Our WOW Group has miraculously grown in size this week! And the room was alive with enthusiasm and excitement as we prepared for our Autumn 2 Lego club. This week, the children learned how to introduce the build, support their peers during the build and help them to reflect afterwards. They experienced a build session, completing their own unique builds that represented what God’s Power means to them. Next week we will be planning our first WOW group-run activity.
Year 4 - Class Worship: God’s Smuggler
This week in class worship, the Year 4 class heard the story of Brother Andrew, the Dutch Christian missionary who risked his life to smuggle Bibles into communist countries. We considered the Christian values he showed and how he lived out God’s Big Story by helping persecuted Christians to practise their faith. In class, we reflected on our we spread God’s love in our school and some children acted their ideas out for the rest of the class. Their ideas included, helping people up when they have fallen, holding the door for people, saying thank you and welcoming others.
Reception - All about 3
This week in Maths we have been looking at numberblock 3 and the parts it is made up of. We know that we can make 3 by adding 1, and another 1, and another 1. We used this knowledge when thinking about the story Goldilocks and the three bears - there were 3 bowls of porridge - just enough for each bear! We then created our own ‘toy’s picnic’ where we checked that each toy had one each of everything. The children were great at spotting when we had not enough, just enough or too many things for the picnic.
Reception - PSHE - Hand hygiene
This week in PSHE we have been learning all about how important it is to keep your hands clean and how germs pass onto different people and objects. We used different coloured glitter on our hands and practiced hand shakes and ‘high fives’ then touching objects and pieces of fruit to see how the germs mixed and spread. We then put glitter in a bowl of water and added a drop of soap to disperse the glitter and demonstrate how the soap kills the germ and why it is important to wash our hands with soap and water.
