Year 2 - Pentecost and the Holy Spirit
Over the past few weeks, Year 2 have been exploring the stories of the Ascension and Pentecost. We had good knowledge of the events in each story, but one question seemed to remain: "What actually is the Holy Spirit?" This was a difficult and personal question for each child. I was extremely impressed with the mature responses we discussed in class. It was amazing to see the children agreeing to disagree with their opinions on what the Holy Spirit meant to them. Later, we discussed how the Holy Spirit can help us. The "Fruits of the Spirit" song suggests that if we have the Holy Spirit, we should be joyful, peaceful, gentle, and many more. We decided that by showing many of these qualities, the Holy Spirit would be shining from the inside out.
Year 4 History - What do artefacts tell us about the past?
In our final history lesson, we looked at how we may extract information from artefacts. The children worked in groups to decide what the artefact was, what it may be used for and what it was made from. We know that the Vikings came to Britain for many reasons and the artefacts that we looked at in the session helped to build our understanding of why and how they lived like they did. Finally, the children presented their learning to the other groups and posed questions related to each artefact example.
Reception- Forest School
This afternoon we have enjoyed a forest school session. We have had fun bug hunting, habitat building, role playing, and den building. The children learnt about different flowers and trees in our environment and had a great time exploring.
Year 5 - Athletes
Today, as part of the Year 5 athletics unit, the children focused on developing their sprinting skills. They worked on key elements such as reaction times, speed, running technique and acceleration. Through a series of short sprints and timed challenges, they aimed to improve their personal bests while learning how to start quickly and maintain good form throughout the run.
Year 5 - E-Safety
Today, the children explored this week’s E-Safety poster, which focused on the topic of violent content online and its potential impact on young people. They discussed the risks associated with viewing such material and demonstrated a good understanding of how to respond safely and responsibly if they ever come across it. The session encouraged thoughtful conversation and reinforced the importance of talking to a trusted adult when something online feels upsetting or inappropriate.
Year 4/5 Cricket Competition
Huge well done to our mixed Year 4 & 5 cricket team! They played brilliantly at Darwen Cricket Club, showing great teamwork and determination. The team secured one impressive win and narrowly lost three matches — one by just a single run! A fantastic effort all round – well done, team!
Worship with Rev. Matt
Today in worship with Rev. Matt, the children began with an engaging game involving a mystery box. Selected children had to reach inside and guess the hidden item using only their sense of touch. This fun activity led into a meaningful Bible story about effort, kindness, and being present for others. Rev. Matt shared the story of a woman named Tabitha, also known as Dorcas, who lived in the town of Joppa. Tabitha was known for always doing good and helping those in need — especially widows and the poor. She spent her time sewing clothes for people in her community and showing love through her actions. Sadly, Tabitha became very ill and died. Her friends were heartbroken and sent for Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples. When Peter arrived, he prayed for her — and miraculously, she came back to life! This amazing moment reminded everyone that the good we do for others matters, and that God sees and values our efforts. The story encouraged the children to think about how they can show kindness and be a positive presence in the lives of others, just like Tabitha.
Year 3- Understanding the Risks: Staying Safe Online
Today in class, we talked about staying safe online, especially when it comes to seeing violent content. About 70% of teenagers have seen real-life violence online in the past year, and it's not just a small problem. While some might actively seek it out, many encounter it through group chats or social media algorithms, meaning it can pop up even if you're not looking for it. After discussing these important points, Year 3 agreed on: they all need to be careful about what they watch and share, and how it affects everyone. If they ever see upsetting content or feel pressured to share something, they will talk to a trusted adult, like a parent and teacher.
Reception- Learning all about the Mosque
On Wednesday we had the pleasure of Ms. Kachwalla teaching us all about what it’s like to be a Muslim and the differences and similarities between Christianity and Islam. We learnt all about the mosque and how Muslims pray five times a day using a prayer mat, that Muslims take their shoes off before they enter the mosque and their holy book is called the Quran.
Online Safety - Violent Content Online - Year 4
In our PSHE session today, we focused on our online safety. Violent content online is now witnessed by around 70% of teenagers through social media. 5% actively seek it out, most encounter it through group chats or social media algorithms. As a class we extracted key pieces of information from the leaflet and then discussed this in our groups. There are plenty of risks associated with online content and a key piece of information that we will take with us is that many older teens become numb to violent content after years of exposure, even admitting that they’re unlikely to ever report it!
Year 6 - English
In year 6, the children have been working extremely hard on their writing and trying to apply many of the skills they have learnt throughout the year. They produced an amplification to highlight the sounds and smells the soldiers may have encountered in the trenches during World War Two.
Year 6 - P.E.
Year 6 have been developing their bowling and batting skills in cricket. They have also been reflecting during game situations about tactics they can adopt and the importance of communication when batting.
