Year 4 - Linking Schools: Who Am I?
Our Linking Schools project in Year 4 is well underway, beginning with a discussion around the question: Who Am I? We played the Speed Name Game and talked about our likes and dislikes. We then decorated a piece of bunting with our names and symbols to represent the things we like. Next, we will be exploring aspects of our identity and sharing our bunting with our linking class.
Year 4 - PE: Gymnastics Routines
Our Year 4 budding gymnasts began their new unit recapping some of the types of travels they have learned in previous years and perfected their technique. They then chose a routine and worked with a partner to learn and perform their routine for the rest of the class.
After-School: Board Game Club
Wow, what an amazing first session of Board Game Club! The children showed all 4B’s, it was lovely to see them all taking turns and sharing. The older children were so great with helping the younger children and teaching them some of the games. They all had such a lovely time.
Online Safety: AI-Generated Videos
Can you spot a fake video online? AI-generated clips are becoming so realistic they’re almost impossible to distinguish from the real thing. This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide explains the dangers of deepfakes and shares practical tips to help young people stay safe. Download your FREE copy here >> https://vist.ly/4dxxe
Year 4 Class Council
In our Class Council session this week, Year 4 were asked to discuss the TV series - Traitors. If they were in a situation similar, would they choose to be completely honest or keep a secret in order to win a big prize? The children worked in five seperate groups but their choice was a unanimous decision of keep a secret. They communicated really well with each other and listened to each other’s points. There were a few children who said they would be honest in this situation but the majority of the vote won within each group!
Seasonal Stockings in Year 4 - Exploring and Analysing Products
In DT we have started our new unit on Seasonal Stockings. We looked at what we already know about stockings, what their function is and where the tradition of leaving stockings out at Christmas came from. Following this we shared a variety of Mrs Gardner’s Christmas stockings and had to guess whose was whose. We discussed both function and visual appeal of each of the examples. Finally we choose one of the stockings and answered questions relating directly to both the fiction and appeal then went on to start our very own designs in paper, choosing the colour of the two base felts in preparation.
Reception- Stay and Play
We had a fantastic first stay and play session for our reception class. It was lovely to see so many parents, carers and grandparents come to play in our indoor and outdoor classroom. It was also lovely to see some children there who may be joining reception class in September.
Reception- R.E- Making a Harvest for the Birds
In our R.E sessions we have been learning all about harvest. Today we spoke about the wildlife and how hard it could be for birds, squirrels and other wildlife to find food in the winter. We decided it would be a good idea to create our own harvest for the wildlife by making bird feeders. We thought about ways we could thank God as we made them.
Forest School Club- Bonfire Night
For our last forest school session we had a bonfire night special. The children got to practise lighting fires safely using the flint and steel. We melted chocolate and made some breadstick sparklers using chocolate and sprinkles. We then finished our session with a hot chocolate or hot Vimto. What a wonderful few weeks we’ve had.
Year 5 - Design and Technology
We started our big design and technology project this week. We are making Christmas cushions using a variety of planning and technical skills. The children cut out their felt Christmas designs and began sewing them onto their cushion covers. The children showed great skill and perseverance threading needles, tying knots and beginning their precise running stitches. In future lessons, we will develop the use of blanket stitches to sew the pocket.
KS2 Football Training
This week, we began our football training for the half term. We focused on game-based sessions with specific rules designed to enhance players’ style of play and support their overall development within the game.
Year 6 - The Human Heart
Today, we began our new science unit on Animals Including Humans, focusing specifically on the human heart. The children used their talk tactics, particularly their talk tokens, to discuss and debate whether the heart is the most important organ in the human body. They thoroughly enjoyed sharing their ideas and demonstrated excellent oracy skills throughout the discussion. Following this, the children took part in an experiment to explore how the heart responds to exercise, recording their results carefully. Later in the lesson, they investigated the structure of the heart in more detail, labelling its different parts and learning about the functions.
