Year 1 Maths: part-whole models
Year 1 were introduced to part-whole models today. We played a practical part-whole game to help us to understand. We used our underarm throwing skills, which we are developing in PE, to throw beanbags into the ‘whole’ hoop. Then we split the beanbags into the two ‘part’ hoops. Year 1 had lots of fun counting and throwing the beanbags.
Year 2 Maths- Adding Tens and Ones With an Exchange
This morning in Year 2, the children enjoyed a practical maths lesson where they added tens and ones with an exchange.
Year 5 - Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have started to explore multiplication and division by considering multiples and factors. The children explained to each other the definition of the term ‘factor’ using stand-share-pair before finding the factors of a range of numbers. This will be the basis for future lessons on prime and composite numbers.
Year 1 Maths: Parts and Wholes
In our maths lesson today, we started our new topic of addition and subtraction within 10. We needed to understand that a whole has at least two parts. For example, 9 could have two parts of 5 and 4. To help us understand this we used counters and ten frames to make different parts and wholes. It was really impressive to see how well the children used the equipment to aid their learning.
Reception: Child Initiated Learning
The children were very excited to set up their own coffee shop today. They came up with their own drinks such as chocolate milkshakes and malteser hot chocolates and took turns to serve each other. A huge thank you to Sophia from 1617 for supplying us with lots of goodies to use.
Year 5 - Debt Aware
Mrs Whittam visited Year 5 to talk to the children about how to manage money. The class first considered the difference between wants and needs before defining the terms debt, spending and borrowing. The children engaged in paired and class discussions and completed a range of activities and games to help develop their understanding of money.
Year 6 - LBQ Maths
Today, Year 6 demonstrated excellent focus and determination during their arithmetic practice using LBQ. Pupils worked carefully through a range of challenging questions, applying their calculation strategies with increasing accuracy and confidence. It was fantastic to see such perseverance and enthusiasm.
Year 3 - LBQ Maths
Year 3 began their LBQ journey, focusing on addition and subtraction within 100 using related facts. The children showed great enthusiasm as they explored different strategies to solve problems and strengthen their understanding of number relationships.
Reception Maths - Subitising Bingo
This week in Maths, Reception have been really focusing on their subitising skills and have applied this quick thinking to a game of Bingo! We took turns to roll a die of 1-3 and subitised the images on our boards to match the numeral to the amount. Once we had covered all the images on our board we shouted ‘Bingo!’ We really enjoyed playing this game together.
Foodie Friends club- Yummy Shape Biscuits
At our after-school foodie club, we made some absolutely delicious buttery biscuits. It took lots of teamwork to get the right dough, the amazing bakers spent time weighing sugar and flour, cracking eggs, and mixing .We then used a variety of different shape cutters to make our biscuits. The end result was a lot of fun, and a lot of tasty treats!
Year 2 Maths- Familiarising Ourselves With the New Tablets
This morning, Year 2 had their first experience with the new tablets now available for Key Stage 1. They did an outstanding job logging into Purple Mash and quickly getting familiar with the device. Students then explored a variety of engaging maths games on the platform, practising times tables, number sequences, and number bonds. Well done, Year 2 – great work!
Reception - All about 3
This week in Maths we have been looking at numberblock 3 and the parts it is made up of. We know that we can make 3 by adding 1, and another 1, and another 1. We used this knowledge when thinking about the story Goldilocks and the three bears - there were 3 bowls of porridge - just enough for each bear! We then created our own ‘toy’s picnic’ where we checked that each toy had one each of everything. The children were great at spotting when we had not enough, just enough or too many things for the picnic.
