Key Stage 2 - Timestable Rockstar Battle

Huge congratulations to all of our Key Stage 2 children who competed in this month’s Times Tables Rock Stars Battle. We were incredibly impressed with the effort and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved. Our individual award winners are: • Year 3 – Charlie Duckworth • Year 4 – Bobby-Ray Catterall • Year 5 – Carter Corran • Year 6 – Charlie Shorrock A special well done also goes to Year 6, our overall winning class for this battle. As a reminder, in order to raise money for the NSPCC, we will be launching the KS2 Times Tables Rock Stars NSPCC Battle in school on Friday 6th February. Throughout the day, children will collectively build up their scores, which will contribute to a whole-school total. To celebrate Number Day, all children — including Reception and Key Stage 1 — are invited to come to school wearing their own clothes that depict a number (for example: numbers on clothing, badges, or Times Tables Rock Stars-themed outfits). Voluntary donations will be available via ParentPay to support this fantastic cause.

Foodie Friends Club- Vanilla Snap Biscuits

We had a fantastic final session of Food Club today. The bakers put all their skills to the test to create some truly mouth-watering shaped biscuits. It was great to see how much their confidence has grown. They were busy weighing out the flour, cracking eggs with precision, and creaming the sugar until it was just right. Once the dough was ready, the children loved rolling it out and choosing from a variety of cutters to create their own unique biscuit designs.

Reception Maths - Composition using double dice frames

In today's Maths session, the children used double dice frames to explore the composition of numbers from 5 to 10. By filling one frame completely before starting the next, they practiced representing these values as "5 and a bit," such as seeing 7 as a full set of five plus two more. This approach helps children to move beyond simple counting, encouraging them to subitise and build a strong mental foundation for future addition and subtraction.

Year 1 Maths: Numbers to 20

In Maths, we have been focusing on numbers to 20. Each child had either a numeral, number word or ten frame pattern from 11-20. They had to find their matching partners and display their numbers together. They were super fast and could easily spot the representations on the ten frames.

Foodie Friends Club-Victoria Sponge Cupcakes

To make Olivia’s birthday extra special today, we made classic Victoria Sponge cupcakes in our Foodie Friends Club. The bakers carefully weighed the flour, sugar, and butter, cracked the eggs, and worked together to prepare the mixture before baking. Once the cakes had almost cooled, the bakers got to work on the best part: the assembly. They carefully sliced the tops to create a space for a generous dollop of rich strawberry jam and freshly whipped cream.

Year 3- Maths-Visualising our Tables using base 10

This week, we’ve been mastering the 2, 4, and 8 times tables. To help the children "visualise the math, we used Base Ten and Numicon to build physical models of each sequence. This hands-on approach has been fantastic for helping them grasp the connection between these scales, especially noticing how the 4s and 8s simply double as they grow.

Maths - Informal Methods of Multiplication in Year 4

In our maths session today we looked at informal methods of multiplication. The children completed lots of practical work using their whiteboards and multiplication grids. Using the part while model, the children were able to break each calculation down and partition it into three sections. They all worked so hard in this and we will now move on to more formal methods in the next session.

Year 4 - Maths: Dividing by 10

We’ve been making good use of our place value grids this week in Year 4. They are especially useful in helping children understand what happens to the digits in a number when we multiply and divide by 10 and 100. The children were presented with a number of problems involving dividing by 10 and they used their grids to move all the digits one place to the right. This practical method of moving digits prepares the children to visualise doing this to find the answer later on in their school journey.

Year 1 Maths: sorting 3D shapes

Year 1 have been working really hard to sort 3D shapes. They have been sorting groups into colour, shape and properties such as curved or straight edges, the amount of faces the shapes have and the number of vertices they have. The children had to look really closely at the shapes to understand their similarities and differences.

Year 3-Oral Health & Physical Activity

Today, Nathan delivered the second GULP (Give up loving pop) session, focusing on the importance of oral hygiene and making healthy drink choices. The session was split into active and classroom-based learning: Physical Activity: The children participated in 30 minutes of high-energy exercise, playing a game where they had to "run away from plaque" and earn points for "cleaning" their teeth. Classroom Learning: We explored the impact of sugary drinks on health and discussed practical ways to avoid them. To see the effects of sugar and acid firsthand, the children carried out an egg experiment, which provided a great visual representation of how tooth enamel can be damaged. Practical Skills: Every child received a toothbrush and toothpaste to encourage consistent dental care at home. The children were fully engaged and absolutely loved the session.

Year 1 Maths - Identifying 3D Shapes

In our maths session this morning we were looking at recognising and naming 3D shapes. The children first learnt a new song which focused on cylinders ,cones, cube and sphere which they absolutely loved! Next we used the 3D shapes to work on identifying how many vertices, faces and edges each of the shapes had. The children worked extremely hard to develop their understanding especially with the sphere and cylinders which were super tricky!
