Mad Science After School Club- Slime Time-The Science Behind the Goo!
Today, our young scientists had an exciting, hands-on adventure in the world of Mad Science Slime! The children explored the science of polymers while creating their own colourful, stretchy, and squishy slime. Each child chose their favourite colour, mixing and experimenting like real chemists to bring their slimy creations to life. The children put their slime to the test in our Mad Science Slime Olympics, stretching, bouncing, and squishing their creations to see whose slime was the stretchiest, stickiest, and most creative.
Let's Go Sing 2025 at Blackpool Winter Gardens
A huge well done to our choir for their fabulous performance at the Let's Go Sing concert at Blackpool Winter Gardens. You certainly danced Jagger and sang like Abba! Thank you so much to Mrs Govan for her commitment to our choir throughout the year and to Mrs Wilkinson for her support. Thank you to our parents and carers who helped with transport and for your support at the concert.
Performing Arts: The Auditions
Miss Woods and Mrs Araujo have both loved our first two sessions with the Year 6 performers. The children have taken their practices seriously and worked hard on their roles ready to audition. We have now decided parts and the children will be informed on Tuesday (18th March). We can’t wait to see you all in this performance at the end of the year.
Mad Science After School Club- Super Sticky Stuff
This afternoon in the club, our future scientists got hands-on with exciting experiments, testing different types of tape, lemon, orange, and other sticky substances to explore their properties and strength.
Little Craft Club
Today at The Little Craft Club, the children designed and decorated their own pencil cases. They thought of their favourite things so the final products represented each of them! Some of the children delved into our Imagination Station box to find things to creatively decorate the zip pull too! This activity is going to be part of a special Craft Club session at The Carus Centre in Hoddlesden during the Easter holidays. In the session, we will also be painting canvases and making bracelets/phone charms. The session is open to the public and can be booked here: https://fredandpearl.com/collections/easter-holidays
Cross country
This Tuesday, cross country club continued with a 20 minute run around Jack’s Key. Next week we will repeat our run and hope to improve our times. We have a few more sessions to be ready for our competition.
Mad Science After School Club- Living in Space
Today in Mad Science After-school club, the children stepped into astronauts' shoes and uncovered the incredible challenges of living in space. They explored why astronauts train underwater to simulate microgravity and discovered how the absence of gravity affects the human body. From floating in space to maintaining muscle strength, they learned what it takes to survive and thrive beyond Earth.
Year 4 Hockey with Progressive Sports
In our first hockey session this half term we had the pleasure of having specialist coaching from Progressive Sports. We started with the basics learning all about how to hold a hockey stick, basic rules and dribbling with a ball. Once we had mastered dribbling, we moved onto stopping the ball and avoiding each other by taking the ball in a different direction.
Mad Science After School Club- Glow Show
Today in Mad Science After-School Club, our future scientists explored how we see light and how it interacts with different objects. They were amazed as they observed phosphorescence in action under UV light. They also discovered the fascinating secrets behind how real money is made and the special features used to prevent counterfeiting. The children were fully engaged and are now super keen to find out what exciting topic they will be exploring next week.
Foodie Friends club- Valentine Biscuits
Our talented bakers created delightful Valentine’s biscuits in various heart-shaped sizes for our final Foodie Friends Club today. They measured flour and sugar, whisked eggs, rolled out the dough, and used food colouring to achieve a lovely shade of pink. The club has been a fantastic experience. Most children have enjoyed it so much that they’ve been recreating the easy bakes at home for their families.
Meet Our Science Ambassadors
We are thrilled to announce that we now have five Science Ambassadors at our school! This exciting role was open to KS2 students, who had to submit an application explaining why they wanted to apply and what made them a strong candidates. We received an incredible number of applications, making the selection process very challenging, but we have now chosen our final five. Our ambassadors are passionate about science, whether it's through experimenting, discovering how things work, or inspiring others to develop a love for the subject. As part of their role, they will support teachers during science lessons, assist their peers with investigations, help set up experiments, and promote a love of science throughout the school. They will also play a key part in science events and initiatives, encouraging curiosity and excitement for learning. We are so proud of them and look forward to Noah, Mathew, James, Cassidy and Naomi shining in their new role!
Year 4- Athletics in the Sun
In our PE lesson today we focused on Sportshall Athletics activities with a twist as we did it outside. We practised baton exchange in relays, soft javelin and ball push. The children loved working in teams and pushed themselves hard to achieve their very best. We finished off the session with a mixed relay and next lesson we aim to incorporate equipment from both the obstacle and over and under relays.
