Archery and Axe Throwing Taster Session in Year 4
Today we had a special treat having a taster session for both archery and axe throwing. We learnt lots of new skills including how to handle the equipment and keep safe whilst using it. Our two coaches went through how to develop the required skills and we worked in small groups in a carousel. We had a fantastic time taking part in the taster session and look forward to understanding many more opportunities in varied sports.
Year 3- Edstart Basketball taster session
Year 3 had a great basketball taster session with Marcus from Edstart this afternoon. The children practised key skills, including dribbling, chest passes, and passing the ball to teammates. Two standout stars were: Bindi, who won the bottle for her encouraging words to her peers, and Isaac, who received a certificate for his outstanding effort throughout the session. The children were also excited to hear about a new afterschool basketball club starting in the new year, and Year 3 can’t wait to sign up!
Church Carol Service
A huge well done to our choir and other volunteers from our school family who sang their little hearts out this evening, at our church carol service. It was a lovely service and we are sure that it brought everyone lots of joy. Thank you Mrs Govan for giving up her time to lead our choir. Thank you to our parents and carers who came along to support.
Care Home Carol Singing
Some of our choir members and a few of their younger siblings brought lots of festive cheer to the residents at Acer Lodge Care Home in Blackburn this evening. They sang their little hearts out and filled the staff and resident's hearts with joy. They were overjoyed to have a visit from Father Christmas who brought them all a little gift for being such little superstars. A huge thank you to the parents and grandparents who transported the children to Blackburn, battling horrendous rain, floods and road closures. It was certainly worth it to see the smiles on the residents faces and to hear them singing along.
KS2 After School Club
During this week’s after-school club, the children focused on improving their movement off the ball. They played an engaging game of bench ball, enhanced with various conditions to challenge them tactically and help develop their football skills. It was a fantastic session filled with teamwork, strategy, and enthusiasm!
Year 5&6 Football
It was an outstanding evening of football for the St. Barnabas team. In their first match, they secured a solid 2-0 victory against St. Edwards. Building on this success, they went on to their second game, defeating Avondale 3-0. Exceptional teamwork and effort from everyone in the team. Huge well done to the boys!
Sportshall Athletics Club
We had another brilliant Sportshall Athletics session this week with the children working hard to develop their speed, and agility on their given events. The children found it quite difficult to master the triple jump but with lots of perseverance they got there in the end.
Lego Club
We had another fun week at Lego club. This week things got slightly competitive. We had a competition to see which groups could build the most sets and who could be the most creative building their own ideas.
Sportshall Athletics Club
In club this week, the children focused on speed bounce, chest push and long jump. They all worked really hard on developing their speed and agility, particularly with the speed bounce. We also practiced effective takeoff in the long jump with driving our lead leg upward to generate power. Consistency is key and landing leaning forward or to one side prevents us from losing key inches.
Year 5&6 Football Club
Today at football club, Year 5 delved into the tactical elements of football, focusing on space, awareness, and movement off the ball. They participated in an exciting game of handball, where they applied rules such as no travelling with the ball, encouraging their teammates to move dynamically to create space and opportunities to score. The session was filled with energy, collaboration, and lots of learning. As these foundational skills will soon be implemented in football matches to enhance their overall gameplay and team strategy.
Little Craft Club: Dinosaur Week
This week at The Little Craft Club, it was Dinosaur week! The children used problem solving skills to make paper plate dinosaurs without instructions. They also created exploding volcanoes using paint in a spray bottle… this was lots of fun! The children finished by working together as a team to clean and tidy the Rainbow Room. Next week is the final Little Craft Club of term and the children are excited to be making some cold climate creatures.
Year 5&6 Football Team
Year 5 and 6 football team had an outstanding day on the field, winning both of their matches with determination and skill! They kicked off with a strong victory over St. Joseph’s, and then, in a thrilling second match against St. Cuthbert’s, they made an incredible comeback. After trailing 2-0, the team showed true grit and teamwork to turn the game around and win 6-2. A fantastic display of resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship!
