High Fives Netball Winners
A huge congratulations to our Netball team for winning the Blackburn with Darwen Bee Stinger High Fives netball finals tonight. This means we will go on to represent BwD at the Lancashire School Games in a few weeks time. Thank you so much to Mrs Gardner for her commitment and dedication to our netball team and to our parents for their wonderful support. Well done Team Barneys!
DPSSA Netball Finals Night
This evening we took part in The Darwen Primary Schools Netball Finals event at Darwen Vale. We had three really tough games winning our first 5-2, drawing our second 1-1 and again winning our final game 5-1. This saw us gain joint top place finishers. Unfortunately it then went down to a goal difference of just three goals so we came away with silver medals. The children played brilliantly and are such a joy to watch. Great team spirit and true St Barnabas encouragers. Well done Team B - you have really done yourselves proud!
Performing Arts Club
Our young thespians are working hard to learn their lines in our weekly focussed script-reading sessions. The end of year performance is fast approaching and so the performers are making those final tweaks to perfect their roles. Eight weeks to go!
Mad Science After School club- Making slime
During our final after-school Science Club session, the children had a blast making slime with the Mad Scientist. They creatively mixed colours to make their slime unique. This half term, they have thoroughly enjoyed exploring various aspects of science. We definitely have future scientists among us!
The W.O.W. Group - Planning for our Spiritual Garden
The W.O.W. Group have been working hard on planning for our new spiritual garden. We successfully secured some funding to be able to create a peaceful area with multi sensory features and an eco friendly environment in which children can spend time on calm activities. We hope to attract local birds and insects too. Look out for ways in which you can support us to create this new area over the coming weeks.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2- Story and Craft Club
Today in Story and Craft Club, our school librarian Matthew chose the story, ‘A SUPERPOWER LIKE MINE’ by Dr Ranj and Miss Flynn read it to some of the Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children. The story was all about a little girl called Femi who discovers all the special powers that her, her friends, and the incredible people around her, bring out in one another every day. We had a great discussion about the superpowers that we all have such as being creative, imaginative, kind, caring, amazing at solving problems, loving, helpful and an extremely good friend and then the librarians helped the children to make their own superhero mask.
Little Voices after school club
Our Little Voices after school club had lots of fun playing games to develop their confidence and they then practised the song that they will be performing to their parents next week.
Year 5&6 Cricket
Today was another fantastic session with our cricket group. The children put into practise all their skills and played by the Dynamo rules that the children will be playing in. They learnt the tactical side of the game whilst perfecting their strike, bowling and fielding skills.
Mad Science After school Club- Magnetic Magic
This afternoon, the future scientists embarked on a magical journey exploring the wonders of magnets. They learned about how magnets work in everyday life and did tests to see how magnets make things move. Then, they used what they learned to conduct experiments that seemed like magic, like making things levitate!
Year 5&6 Cricket Club
Another week of our cricket club got underway this week. The children focused hard on the dynamo rules and putting them into good practise during a game. The children have worked really well on the tactics of the game and mastering their technique of batting, bowling and fielding.
Mad Science After School Club- Lights, Colour, Action.
Today at the club, the budding scientists explored what's hidden in regular light and witnessed cool chemical reactions. They also tried on special glasses that made rainbows look awesome. Plus, they had fun making drawings on black paper light up by shining a torch on them.
Mad Science After-School Club-Watts- Up!
At the Mad Science after-school club today, the budding scientist had a blast! They dove into the world of static electricity, discovering its role in nature. They created indoor lightning and tried out some hair-raising experiments with an electrostatic generator.
