After-School Foodie Friends Club- Mouth Watering Shaped Biscuits
During our after-school foodie club today, the children had fun turning into little bakers, making all kinds of shaped biscuits. They even got to use their maths skills, carefully weighing out the butter, sugar, and flour on the scales. Cracking an egg was a highlight before mixing everything into a soft dough. It was wonderful to see them helping each other roll it out and using shape cutters to create stars, hearts, flowers, and bunny rabbits. Once baked in the school oven, they packed their biscuits into little paper bags to take home and share with their families.
Cre8ability Session 2
We began our session finishing off our Picasso artwork. Today we thought of words beginning with each letter of the alphabet to link to our emotions. We then discussed feelings and how they can make our tummies feel strange. Jacob said that green is calm, Leonora said orange can make us feel overwhelmed and Eve said fizzy red can make us feel angry. Our aim is to be in green mode but we need to recognise when we are moving into orange so that we can prevent ourselves from moving into red and feeling angry. Our craft this week was using clay. The group all chose their favourite things to sculpt. It was a lovely time for parents and children to spend time with each other and have some fun.
KS2 Football Trials
Our Upper KS2 children participated in this season's school football trials, demonstrating both their skills and teamwork. Everybody played exceptionally well, showcasing their impressive talents, from sharp dribbling and accurate passing to strong defence and goal-scoring techniques. The enthusiasm on the field was contagious, as the children gave their best efforts and enjoyed the opportunity to compete and improve their abilities. It was fantastic to see their passion for the game, and we're excited to see how their football journey progresses this season.
The W.O.W. Group - Painting the Spiritual Garden
The W.O.W. group began the exciting task of decorating our new spiritual garden today. Crown Paints kindly donated lots of paint for our project, so we took full advantage of the sunshine and began painting the wooden punctuation symbols. Just the benches, bird tables and planters to go!
Year 3 and 4 - After-School Foodie Friends Club - Making Ciabatta Pizza
Year 3 and 4 chefs started our After-School Foodie Club with a fun and tasty activity making ciabatta pizzas! They sliced their ciabattas in half, layered them with tomato passata, a sprinkle of basil and oregano, and topped them with peppers, sweetcorn, pineapple, and cherry tomatoes.
Cre8ability Session 1
We had our first parent and child ‘nurturing emotional wellbeing in creative spaces’ group today run by Cre8ability. The children together with their parents created some artwork in the style of Picasso. It was lovely to see them working together in such a calming environment. The children and parents learnt which colours reflect their feelings and also learnt some calming techniques. A huge thank you to Carol and Maria, we can’t wait for next week.
High Fives Netball Winners
A huge congratulations to our Netball team for winning the Blackburn with Darwen Bee Stinger High Fives netball finals tonight. This means we will go on to represent BwD at the Lancashire School Games in a few weeks time. Thank you so much to Mrs Gardner for her commitment and dedication to our netball team and to our parents for their wonderful support. Well done Team Barneys!
DPSSA Netball Finals Night
This evening we took part in The Darwen Primary Schools Netball Finals event at Darwen Vale. We had three really tough games winning our first 5-2, drawing our second 1-1 and again winning our final game 5-1. This saw us gain joint top place finishers. Unfortunately it then went down to a goal difference of just three goals so we came away with silver medals. The children played brilliantly and are such a joy to watch. Great team spirit and true St Barnabas encouragers. Well done Team B - you have really done yourselves proud!
Performing Arts Club
Our young thespians are working hard to learn their lines in our weekly focussed script-reading sessions. The end of year performance is fast approaching and so the performers are making those final tweaks to perfect their roles. Eight weeks to go!
Mad Science After School club- Making slime
During our final after-school Science Club session, the children had a blast making slime with the Mad Scientist. They creatively mixed colours to make their slime unique. This half term, they have thoroughly enjoyed exploring various aspects of science. We definitely have future scientists among us!
The W.O.W. Group - Planning for our Spiritual Garden
The W.O.W. Group have been working hard on planning for our new spiritual garden. We successfully secured some funding to be able to create a peaceful area with multi sensory features and an eco friendly environment in which children can spend time on calm activities. We hope to attract local birds and insects too. Look out for ways in which you can support us to create this new area over the coming weeks.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2- Story and Craft Club
Today in Story and Craft Club, our school librarian Matthew chose the story, ‘A SUPERPOWER LIKE MINE’ by Dr Ranj and Miss Flynn read it to some of the Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children. The story was all about a little girl called Femi who discovers all the special powers that her, her friends, and the incredible people around her, bring out in one another every day. We had a great discussion about the superpowers that we all have such as being creative, imaginative, kind, caring, amazing at solving problems, loving, helpful and an extremely good friend and then the librarians helped the children to make their own superhero mask.
