KS1 Wellbeing Club
Today at wellbeing club, our Year 1 and 2 children made Mothering Sunday cards. Their cards doubled up as hanging decorations so that their mummy’s could remove these from the cards and continue to display them even when the Mothering Sunday cards are taken down.
Mad Science After- School Club- Optical illusion
Today, the children in the science club observed changing images firsthand through a camera obscura while delving into the fascinating realms of optics, reflection, and sight.
Wellbeing Club
Mrs Wilkinson really enjoyed spending time with some children from Years 1 and 2 for the start of their wellbeing club. They discussed why it is important to look after ourselves and how we can be kind to ourselves. We then made friendship bracelets and looked at affirmations and coloured in some affirmation posters.
Cross Country Club
Year 3,4,5 & 6 cross country club got underway after school, despite the awful weather. For our first session, the children ran up to Jacks Key Lodge and completed long distance shuttle runs to maximise their stamina and pace in preparation for the cross country races.
Mad Science After -School Club- Missions Nutritious
Today, in our after-school club led by a scientist, the young children investigated the energy content of food by burning a stale crisp and using the released energy to heat water. We discovered that one crisp equals 6 calories. This was super exciting to watch. The young scientists also measured their energy expenditure by jogging on the spot. For our final experiment, the children filled a bottle halfway with water and then poured in about 100ml of oil. They then observed the oil float on the water. They were fascinated by this observation. We also estimated the length of a child's intestine during the session, adding to our exploration of the human body. They're eagerly looking forward to next week's experiment with slime.
Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics Final
A huge well done to our Sportshall athletics squad for their fantastic performance in the BWD Sportshall athletics final last night. We were one of the smallest schools there and came joint third on points. However, as there was a tie it came down to who had won more events so we were awarded fourth as the other school had won more events. We are so proud of everyone in our squad as they showed brilliant sportsmanship, determination and effort, as well as encouraging each other. A huge thanks to Mrs Gardner, Mr Bloomfield, Mr Norris, Mr Prescott and Mrs Wilkinson for your support, transport, coaching and photography. Many thanks to our parents for the support with transport. Well done Team Barney’s! All of the photos can be found here: https://www.stbarnabasdarwen.co.uk/photo-galleries/year-5-6-sportshall-final
Year 3/4 Key Steps Gymnastics Competition
What a fantastic afternoon we have had at St Bedes taking part in the Key Steps Gymnastics competition. We entered the individual competition plus the girls and the mixed teams. The children have worked incredibly hard to memorise three routines both at home and in school. Today when they performed all three routines, they all had a huge smile and did it with pure Barney’s determination and perseverance. We are so proud of all nine of them for representing our school in such a great way! Also a huge WELL DONE to our girls team who came away with a bronze medal!
After school clubs - Spring 2
Good afternoon parents and carers, please find attached the details of the after school clubs that will be taking place next half term. Some clubs such as SATS, choir and performing arts have already been signed up to but there are a couple of new clubs for KS1 including Forest schools and a Wellbeing Club. In Forest schools the children will be taking part in fun forest school activities so you need to make sure they are wrapped up warm and with boots or wellies. The wellbeing club will focus on the five ways to wellbeing including getting active and crafts. These can be booked shortly on parent pay and will be on a first come, first serve basis. A reminder that Cross Country trials will take place tomorrow at 12.00pm for Years 3-6. If you would like your child to try out for the cross country team, please send a spare pair of clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting muddy. After the half term holidays Mr Bloomfield and Mr Norris will be running a Cross Country club for the children who are selected to be in the cross country team. The Mad science club is fully booked for next half term but an extra term has been added. See the previous post from Miss Kachwalla for details. Similar to this half term, we can only offer a limited number of clubs next half term due to the number of upcoming events and competitions such as cross country races, netball league, Let's go sing concert, the swimming gala and gymnastics etc .
WOW Group - Messy Church Planning
The WOW Group have been busy planning their lunchtime messy church sessions. This week, they were making posters to advertise the sessions and, next week, they will be explaining what they are all about in worship.
Mad Science Show
This morning our whole school family had a super Mad Science Show led by Scientist Sarah. The focus was on energy and she showed us all some really exciting experiments that create different forms of energy. A huge well done to our chosen volunteers James, Annabelle and Archie!
Year 4 G & T Key Steps Gymnastics Club
This evening we saw the launch of our Year 4 Gifted and Talented Key Steps Gymnastics Club. The children have been working extremely hard to develop both their floor and body management sequences by working on various applications. We hope that every week we can learn something new and push ourself to be our Barney’s best!
Year 3/4 Sportshall Athletics Club Final Session
Tonight saw the final Sportshall Athletics Club. The children have pushed themselves out of their comfort zones trying new events such as obstacle relay, five strides and vertical jump. Well done to everyone who attended and we look forward to the competition in the new year.
