Year 5/6 Tennis Competition
A huge well done to Sophie, Lucy, Archie and Ross for taking part in our tennis competition today. They showed perseverance, courage and great sporting behaviour throughout the competition.
Year 5 - Computing
Today, year 5 have been creating an advertising campaign using a variety of multi-media tools. The children made their adverts informative, appealing and stand out by using lots of technical tools.
Year 6 - Computing
This week during computing, Year 6 created their own advertising campaign and a website to match. The children explored many creative tools to make their adverts appealing to their audience and make people want to read their campaigns. The children used their amazing creative skills to personalise their adverts.
The Little Craft Club
After school today, Becky, the owner of Fred and Pearl, ran ‘The Little Craft Club!’ at our school for the first time. It was a huge success and the children created some amazing crafts. The theme for this week was vehicles and the children made a boat, hot air balloon and car. They used a range of colours and materials and they all looked incredible. Well done to the EYFS and KS1 children that attended this week for being so creative in their designs.
Online Safety: Promoting Physical Wellbeing
With the Euros in full swing, plenty of children are taking to the pitch but perhaps we can keep them active all year round. This #WakeUpWednesday, we’ve put together some expert tips on promoting physical wellbeing to children and young people. Download >> https://bit.ly/3KM4Pdc
Rev Matt’s Worship: God’s Great Creations
Rev Matt began his worship this week with a challenge for us all to vote for “the best one for the job”. He showed two people or animals and asked which would be the best runner, the best fire fighter, the best world leader etc. He then read a poem from the Bible about nature and how precious God’s creations are. We spent some time discussing our favourite creations and how we could take care of them.
Year 4 - Class Worship: Supporting Refugees
In our class worship in Year 4, we learned about the rights of the child and how these protect us from harm and cruelty. We read some first hand accounts of refugees fleeing their countries and tried to understand what actions might have led to their escape and how they might have felt in that situation. The children then discussed how they could help refugees in their community and elsewhere in the world. The class came up with some very considerate ideas.
Year 4 - PE: Netball Skills
This week in PE session 1, Year 4 developed their chest passing skills, holding the ball with their fingertips and pushing it from chest height. They also learned how to jump and receive the ball. The class had great fun practising these skills and they finally had a chance to apply these skills in a netball match.
Year 4 - Linking Schools: Courageous Advocacy
A few weeks ago, the Year 4 class discussed a number of ideas to improve our community and decided on one issue to focus on. After a vote, the children decided they would like to tackle vandalism in the area. This week, we walked to Whitehall Park to assess the damage and found much of the equipment to be unsafe to play on. We took pictures of the problem areas and the children have decided they want to write to their local MP to ask him to repair the park. We are really hoping for a reply!
W.O.W. Group - Spiritual Garden
The W.O.W. group began to see all their ideas and planning coming to fruition on Wednesday when they started work on our new spiritual garden. The area had kindly been dug out by Mr Ham and so W.O.W. got to work laying the membrane and spreading stones. They will be adding to this area each week, so keep a look out for their progress.
High Fives Netball Winners
A huge congratulations to our Netball team for winning the Blackburn with Darwen Bee Stinger High Fives netball finals tonight. This means we will go on to represent BwD at the Lancashire School Games in a few weeks time. Thank you so much to Mrs Gardner for her commitment and dedication to our netball team and to our parents for their wonderful support. Well done Team Barneys!
Reception- forest school
The children had a great time exploring our outdoor forest school area. Some children chose to climb trees, some went on a bug hunt, some built dens and some children let their imaginations run wild. It was lovely to see the children so confident and engaged with their outdoor play.
