What is the Equator?

This afternoon in Year 2, the class have been learning about The Equator. The children looked at different countries and continents in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere and labelled The Equator on their own maps of The World.

Move and Learn - Year 5

Year 5 really enjoyed the ‘Move and Learn’ session delivered by Elle from Blackburn Rovers. They have been learning about the importance of sport for our physical and mental health. We have been discussing and considering positive ways of reducing screen time and moving more.

Rotakids - Year 5

We now have a President ( Charlotte), Vice President ( Freya), Treasurer ( Bobby) and a Secretary ( Louie ) for Rotary Club. Year 5 have pledged to be fair to all, to serve their community and to show respect for others. Over the following weeks, we will have meetings to discuss and collate ideas and find ways to support our community.

Year 1- The Gruffalo

Year 1 have been focusing on the story of The Gruffalo in their English lessons. We have been working on a story map in pictures to help us recall the story and we’ve been describing the character of the Gruffalo. We can’t wait to post a video of us telling the story when we’ve finished our whole story map! We have also played a ‘roll and draw’ game in our continuous provision time against a partner showing super turn taking and understanding of the Gruffalo’s characteristics.

Year 3 have started learning how to play chords on the keyboards as part of their music taught by Miss Kennedy from Junior Jam this half term.

In their art lessons, Year 1 have been learning about the different textures of materials that can be used within collages and how these materials can be cut, torn and ripped to produce artwork. This week in continuous provision, they have independently applied these skills to create their own poppy collages ready for Remembrance Day next week.

What a fantastic way to end The Darwen Primary Schools League down at Witton. These absolute legends won their last game 14-0 and conducted themselves in such a fantastic manner, showing fantastic sportsmanship!

Super Seasonal Stockings -DT

What a great start we have had to our new DT project- Seasonal Stockings. The children have investigated and developed their ideas after looking at various samples. Following this, they chose their favourite examples and started the design process .

Year 3 Remembrance Art

Year 3 have been working hard on their Art work for Remembrance Day. They have used acrylic paint to decorate the bottoms of bottles and then some more paper versions using pointillism.

Reception’s Rhyme time

Today was our first rhyme time where parents and grandparents joined us. We had so much fun and really enjoyed using the instruments and props to sing lots of different nursery rhymes. Thank you so much to all those who were able to join us. We can’t wait for next week! Rhyme times will be every Wednesday where parents and family members are welcome to come for refreshments from 8.45-9am and then the children will join from 9-9.30am. Younger siblings and preschool children are more than welcome to come and join us.

Reception: 2D shapes

This week the children have been learning all about circles and triangles. All of the children in reception have been on a hunt around school to find these shapes within their environment. They have been counting the corners and sides of the triangles, whilst noticing that a circle has just one curved edge.

Poppy Art- Year 5

Georgia O’ Keefe inspired Poppy Art. The children drew poppies and then experimented with adding colour using different media, (oil pastels, water colours and wax crayons). We began by discussing the historical context of poppies as a symbol of remembrance, the end of conflict in the First World War.
