Historical Settings- Year 5
This half term, Year 5 will be exploring a range of stories with a historical setting. This week, we have been reading and watching parts of Oliver Twist as stimulus.
Year 2 Maths- Bonds to 100!
As part of our Maths unit of Addition and Subtraction, Year 2 have been looking at Bonds to 100. We have explored how we can use our knowledge of number bonds 10 ten, to help us with our understanding of bonds to 100, using tens.
Year 4 Word Webs
We love discovering new words in Year 4! And when we do discover them, we know just how to explore them. Give us a dictionary and a word web and we’re on our way!
Learning French sounds in Year 3
Year 3 have been busy learning French sounds this week with Mademoiselle Woodcock from DACA.
All Saints Day Worship
Today in worship, we discussed what All Saints’ Day is. The children discussed how a saint is somebody who is special to God and is holy. The children shared names of different Saints such as Saint Barnabas, Saint George, Saint Paul, Saint Joseph and Saint Edward. Mrs Ham shared information all about different Saints such as Saint Barnabas who was an encourager and Saint George who stood up for what he believed in. Saints are kind and helpful people and we looked at how we can be like a Saint too. We discussed how this week we are going to think about how we can have invisible halos on our heads like the Saints. The children shared how we could help refugees, show respect to everyone, pick up litter, do the right thing, help others, be grateful and be kind.

Thank you for your generosity this Harvest!
Thank you so much for your generous donations for Harvest this year. Darwen Asylum & Refugee Enterprise (DARE) were overwhelmed with your support and generosity. The donations were created into care packages along with the children’s maps of the local area, welcome to Darwen posters, prayers and poems which enabled refugees to receive a warm welcome to Darwen.

We would like to wish our whole school family a wonderful half term holiday. The children and staff have worked their socks off so we hope they have a well deserved rest.
Awesome Artwork by Year 4
Today we finished our ‘Britto Inspired’ artwork and it’s amazing! The children have worked extremely hard on their pieces and each and everyone is a unique masterpiece. Please see our class gallery for further photos.
Hooray for Harvest!
Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 were amazing in our Harvest Festival today. Thank you to all those who attended or donated generous gifts of food or toiletries for local refugees. We were fortunate to be joined by John, Patsy and Shameem from DARE (Darwen Asylum and Refugee Enterprise) who have taken all of your donations, the children’s welcome posters, local maps, prayers and poems. They will be sorted into parcels for refugees who have joined our community in order to give them a warm welcome and will also be shared with others in need in our community. We heard a harrowing account from Shameem, who fled from Afghanistan seven years ago due to being persecuted as a female teacher there. She has only just managed to get two of her children here seven years later and they are now attending our local high school and are being supported by one of our past pupils, who remembers Shameem visiting St Barnabas several years ago. We are so thankful for the work that John and Patsy are doing to support people in our community who are in need and so grateful for your donations. We are so proud of our children for showing our Christian Values of generosity, friendship and respect through the warm welcome they have shown refugees through their prayers, poems, welcome posters, maps and songs.
