Reception Maths- heavy and light
This week the children have been using the pan balance to explore heavy and light objects. They have been identifying what happens to the pan balance when a heavy object is put in one side and a light object is put in the other. They have also been looking at ways to make the pan balance balance by making both sides equal.
Year 5- French - Things around the house and stationary
In French over the past few weeks the children have been learning the names of the different rooms in the house and furniture we find in those rooms. This week we finished looking around the house and began to learn the names of different items of stationery.
Year 5 - Computing - Data input and office
During computing this term we are learning how to use Office and in particular Excel. The children are learning to input data on Excel to change the colours of the blocks and create pictures. They have been able to create some fantastic pictures!
Year 5 - Music Songwriting
During music for the next couple of weeks we will be writing our own songs using the glockenspiel to create a melody. We have been learning what different parts of a song are called and which order they would normally go in to create a typical pop song. We have also been learning about the difference between rapping and singing.
Year 3 PE - Orienteering
This week Year 3 worked outside in pairs for their orienteering PE session. They were tasked with retrieving letters using their maps, they then had to arrange the letters into a word. They did brilliantly, working together, problem solving and showing great determination. Well done Year 3!

During our Junior Jam sessions we have been looking at creating our own 2D and 3D animations in Computing.
Year 3 History - Chronology
Year 3 have been busy during history organising pictures into chronological order, comparing pictures and discussing their ideas within their groups. They answered the questions; 'How do the periods of time studied in years 2 and 3 fit into a chronological framework?' and 'What has changed during these periods of time?'.
Year 1-Bossy verbs
Yesterday we went on a walk to Jack’s Key to find a suitable route to write instructions for Reception class to guide them on a walk. Today we looked at bossy verbs and acted some out in practice for our instruction writing tomorrow.

Yesterday we went on a walk to find some human and physical features in Darwen. This afternoon we’ve discussed what we found and wrote about the differences between human and physical features.

Following on from learning about materials we’ve been on a walk to find some materials out and about in our local area.
Year 2 - Money
This week in year 2 we have started our money unit in maths. We have been exploring the value of coins, collecting an amount and exploring many ways in which we can make a set amount of money; using different coins.
Year 6 Art- Still-life sketching
In Art, year 6 have been creating their own still-life sketches of WW2 items. We decided on this as our focus because of our local history topic in which we will look in more detaIl at the role Darwen played in WW2.
