Year 1 D&T- Sliding mechanisms
Year 1 explored sliding mechanisms in their first D&T lesson. They had to make the car move backwards and forwards along the street and the bunny rabbit move up and down in the hat. They are working towards planning and making their own moving pictures.
Year 1 Art- Arctic Landscape Collages
As part of their Art unit last half-term, Year 1 have been building up the skills of collage for several weeks. They have learnt about warm and cool colours, the composition of a landscape, how to use watercolours to create a background and how to use different materials to create the different textures of a landscape. Their final piece of artwork incorporates all of these skills and they have done a wonderful job. Well done Year 1.
Year 1- Solving additions within 10.
This week, Year 1 have been solving addition problems within 10 using their ten frames and completing a challenge involving number bonds within 10 using dominoes.
Year 6 School Council Meeting
Year 6 held their latest school council meeting today and discussed whether we should hold a ‘No Pens Day’. Again, they spoke with fantastic maturity and acknowledged the importance of using pens, but expressed that having no pens would give the opportunity to talk about subjects more and learn from each other.
Year 1 English
Year 1 are preparing to write their non-chronological reports. Today, they were set the challenge of matching a caption to its correct picture. They then wrote their own captions for some animal pictures using capital letters, full stops and some of the vocabulary that they have learnt in their science lessons such as mammal, amphibian, bird, reptile, fish, hairy, scaly, fury, slimy, herbivore, omnivore and carnivore.
Reception circle time- sharing news
Today, Reception class took part in circle time and each child shared some news with the class. We were so impressed with their speaking, recall of detail and waiting for their turn. Lovely to see, Reception!
Reception PE
Today during our PE lesson, Reception class were placed into groups and asked to complete each of the 4 circuits set up, including pencil rolling, two footed jump, throwing and balancing. All the children showed good listening skills and tried each activity with enthusiasm, well done!
Year 3 - Music - Steel Drums
This term during our music lessons we will be learning how to play the steel drums. The children really loved learning all about the origin of the steel drum and they had great fun having a go.
Year 5 - Installation Art Creations
This week Year 5 have been creating their own installation art pieces using everyday objects that they can find around school. The children created many representations of children working in the classroom. They used all the objects very creativity and were able to shape their creations in ways that created emotions.
Year 5 - Darwen Rotary Visit
This week Darwen Rotary visited Year 5 to gain an insight into the work that they have been doing as part of RotaKids. The children discussed their international protect which was raising money for the devastating earthquakes that happened in Morocco. The children then discussed their plans and ideas for their community project which is donating books, toys and coats to local charities to help people who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Jake Berry Visit- Parliament Week
Year 5 and 6 welcomed our local MP, Jake Berry, into school on Monday and he led an engaging workshop and Q&A session. During the session, he spoke about how laws are created and the various traditions that are upheld in parliament. Year 5 and 6 represented the school superbly and asked some very mature questions, that were kindly answered open and honestly by Mr Berry. What a great way to launch Parliament week next week!
