Whole School Christmas Church Service
This morning, our whole school enjoyed a joyful and reflective visit to church to celebrate the Christmas season together. During the service, children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 confidently shared the work they have been doing in class, exploring the true meaning of Christmas and the special joy, hope and kindness that Jesus brought to others. Their contributions helped everyone to pause and reflect on the importance of love, generosity and togetherness at this special time of year. We also enjoyed singing a selection of our much-loved Christmas carols, filling the church with festive cheer. A highlight was watching our whole-school Christmas video, which captured many of the wonderful activities and celebrations from the past couple of weeks. The children thoroughly enjoyed seeing themselves on screen taking part in the festivities and were especially delighted to see members of the school staff joining in and having fun. It was a warm and uplifting celebration that truly reflected the spirit of Christmas and brought our school community together. A huge thank you to Parents and to all who attended to celebrate with us. We wish you a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Year 6 - Breakfast with Mr Bloomfield
This morning, as part of the Year 6 Early Morning SATs Club, the children were delighted to enjoy a special Breakfast with Mr Bloomfield. They shared a tasty breakfast while chatting with friends and taking part in festive activities, creating a relaxed and cheerful start to the day. It was a fantastic way to celebrate their commitment and all the hard work they have put into their SATs preparation. Well done, Year 6 — we are very proud of you!
Year 6 Junior Jam - French
This week in French, year 6 recapped everything they have been learning this term. They played games and sang songs all about: members of their family, rooms and furniture in the house, days of the week and telling the time, and describing their daily routines. They also learned some interesting facts about how families in France celebrate at Christmas time and how their traditions differ to ours.
Year 6 - Christmas Party
Today, our Year 6 pupils enjoyed their Christmas party, which was filled with lots of fun and laughter. They took part in a variety of games, including musical statues, bumps, corner games and dance-offs. The room was buzzing with energy and everyone had a fantastic time celebrating together.
Year 6 - National Parks of the United Kingdom
Today, Year 6 used an atlas to explore the national parks of the UK. The children investigated where the national parks are located and discussed why tourism is such a big industry in these areas. The children also explored how the UK benefits from tourism, including job opportunities, support for local communities and the protection of natural environments.
Whole Class Worship - Joy
This week of advent, our focus is Joy. We began by recounting the advent themes we have explored so far: Hope and Peace. Mrs Ham chose Lyla from Year 4 to come to the front to light the three advent candles and she highlighted some of the ways our school family have brought joy to others over the past few weeks. It was heartwarming to hear about some of these, including the Reception class nativity, Year 1 and Year 2’s Christmas Cracker, the choir singing at Acer Lodge care home, and Year 4 writing letters to the residents, plus all of those who have been supporting our latest charity campaigns. We reflected on what true joy looks like and how we can sometimes forget about the simple things when our minds are preoccupied with expensive gifts and the hustle and bustle of the season. Our focus was brought back to the gift God sent - his only son - and how Jesus’ incarnation was the joyous gift that changed our world forever.
Year 6 - Coastlines and Islands
Today, the children used DigiMaps to locate, explore and compare a range of coastlines across the United Kingdom. The children investigated how the shapes of different coastlines vary and identified key geographical features such as bays, headlands, cliffs and beaches. The children also examined the UK’s surrounding islands, using the zoom tools to study their position, size and distance from the mainland. They showed great curiosity as they navigated the digital maps, asked thoughtful questions and discussed why these coastal landscapes might look the way they do.
DPSSA Schools Football League
Great performances tonight! Narrowly missing out 3–1 to Avondale in a fantastic game. But showing brilliant character to bounce back with a 3–1 win over Turton Edgworth. Well done boys!
Year 6 Junior Jam - Music
Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic music lesson with Junior Jam this week. As part of their singing unit, the children sang a selection of Christmas songs and also added some dance moves! A fun and festive lesson!
Year 6 - Mary Poppins
As part of our English unit on Mary Poppins, the children created their own chalk-art pieces, taking inspiration from the Match Man’s illustration style. Using descriptive language, setting features and visual imagery, the children designed imaginative playground scenes filled with detail and creativity. These visuals will now act as a stimulus for writing, helping the children develop a new narrative episode that imagines an exciting day out for Mary Poppins.
Year 6 - LBQ - Adding Mixed Number Fractions
Year 6 spent today’s lesson developing their understanding of adding mixed-number fractions using LBQ. The children engaged with a sequence of challenging questions that reinforced core concepts including converting mixed numbers, finding equivalent fractions and simplifying. The digital platform allowed for immediate feedback, supporting pupils’ progress and addressing misconceptions in real time.
Year 6 - Class Worship
Year 6 took part in a thoughtful class worship exploring Herald the King and what it means to live out God’s Big Story in our daily choices. The children reflected on themes of hope, kindness and responsibility, discussing how they can shine God’s light in school and at home. To celebrate this special time of year, the children created ‘wishful stars’, each one expressing a personal hope or commitment inspired by the worship. These stars now serve as a gentle reminder of the messages shared and the values we choose to carry forward.
