Transition Day- Year 2 - 3- A Rewarding Afternoon

This afternoon, we focused on Maths and Reading . They read remarkably well, and their ability to summarise what they'd read showcased excellent comprehension. In Maths, they clearly displayed a strong grasp of place value and numbers, building a solid foundation in these essential areas. Beyond their academic achievements, it was evident how much growth and maturity they have developed. They are definitely ready for Year 3! As a special recognition for their hard work and how much they enjoyed their time experiencing Year 3 today, they were rewarded with a session on the outdoor gym and worship with Rev Matt. They've had such a positive experience and are eager to go home and share all about their day with their parents and carers!

Year 1 to Year 2 Transition Day- English- Exploring Riddles

During their transition day, our current Year 1 children (soon to be Year 2) kicked off a new poetry unit. They absolutely loved exploring riddles, carefully investigating the clues. They then challenged themselves to create their own clues for various objects, using adjectives and similes. We were incredibly lucky to have Freddie and Oscar from the current Year 6 class in our room, who did some fantastic modelling of similes to help the younger children. The Year 1s then impressed us with brilliant examples like: "A snake is long and thin like a hosepipe," "A snake is green like a gecko," "An apple is round like the world," "A crab is snappy like a crocodile," and "A coin is shiny like the moon."

Year 4 - English: Collecting Ideas

In Year 4, the children are writing their final narrative of the year and this session was all about developing a character. The children were split into teams in order to collect ideas. Each team had a different focus and they had to record ideas ready to share with the class. The focus areas included specific nouns, adjectives, similes and powerful verbs. At the end of the lesson, we had a bank of ideas to help us write about our character.

Reception - Spectacular Space!

This week, Reception have been on a mission to outer space! We started the week by reading the book ‘meet the planets’ to learn the names of the planets in our solar system. We then worked hard to complete the space related challenges in the classroom, such as making shape rockets in the maths area, creating sparkling space pictures in creative and labelling the planets in the writing area. The children have also loved exploring our small world space zone in class. What a space-tastic week we’ve had! It has been out of this world!

Year 5 - Figurative Language

In Year 5, the children continued their work on the novel Who Let the Gods Out by Maz Evans, an exciting and humorous story that blends modern life with Greek mythology. Building on their understanding of the plot and characters, the children focused on creating vivid setting descriptions inspired by key scenes in the book. They explored how authors use figurative language—such as similes, metaphors, personification and powerful adjectives—to bring settings to life and engage the reader’s imagination. Pupils then applied these techniques in their own writing, crafting rich, atmospheric descriptions of locations such as Stonehenge at twilight, the Underworld or even scenes from the chaotic life of the main character, Elliot.

Year 3- English-Diary Planning

Today, our Year 3 writers are exploring the themes of resilience and displacement through the book My Name Is Not Refugee. They worked hard planning key events and personal feelings for their diary entries. From the heartache of saying goodbye to old friends and leaving their homes with just a small bag, to the challenging days of walking and sleeping in strange places, the children thoughtfully considered every step of the journey. They also reflected on the new sensory experiences, like tasting new foods, seeing interesting sights, and hearing different languages, alongside the emotional challenges of loneliness and cold. Tomorrow, they'll use these carefully planned events to write their diary entries, bringing their stories to life on paper.

Reception: Jonah and the Whale

Continuing with our unit on Prayer, Reception class listened to the story of Jonah and the Whale. They used Godly play to retell the story. Reception class discussed how Jonah prayed to say sorry to God. We discussed how God listened to Jonah and answered his prayer. We discussed how God always listens to us all when we pray and will always try to answer our prayers. The children enjoyed retelling the story in continuous provision.

Year 3 - English- Presentation Of Learning- My name is not a Refugee

Year 3 presented their learning about refugees to the Year 2 class today. The session began with a clear definition of the word "refugee," helping the younger students understand this term. The children then went on to share some facts they had learned about refugees, for example, some refugees walk for miles and miles, refugees are just people, like you and me, who need a safe place to live and sometimes, refugees can only take a small bag, they have to leave their toys, schools, and homes behind. What brought their learning to life was the opportunity to meet some refugees yesterday and hear their stories firsthand. Sharing these powerful personal accounts with the Year 2 class was an amazing experience, allowing the students to grasp the concept of "living life in its fullness" even in the face of adversity. Naomi read out a prayer to keep all the children and grown-ups who have left their homes safe. Help them find a new, happy place to live. And help us be kind to everyone. Amen.
