Year 3- D.T- Running stitch
This afternoon in Design technology, the little elves have been busy picking their design for their pouch, options were stocking, star, bauble, tree or snowman. They are doing great with the running stitch, although a few need support threading the needle. They are super excited to reveal the end result at our school Christmas fair.
Year 1 D&T
In D&T, Year 1 used the plan that they created last lesson to create the backgrounds for their moving pictures. They had to create two backgrounds. One of the backgrounds will be used as picture 1 and 2 in their moving story book and the second background will be used for picture 3 in their moving story book. We had the sky for reindeers to fly in, skies for Santa and his sleigh to fly in, chimneys for Santa to get into children’s houses, the roofs of houses for Santa and his sleigh to land on and fireplaces for Santa to land beside and deliver presents. Next lesson, year one will cut the sliders into their backgrounds and create the characters for the moving part of the picture.
Year 5 - Sewing Practice
Today in Year 5, the children have been practising their sewing skills in preparation to make our own Christmas cushions for our school Christmas fair. The children have been practising running and zig zag stitches and being able to start and finish a line of stitching.
Foodie Friends Club- Pitta Pizzas
Our after-school club was a success today! The children had a blast chopping peppers and tomatoes to prepare the sauce for their pitta pizzas. It was an adventure for some as they tasted olives for the first time, and reviews were mixed. I was extremely proud of them for embracing something new. Not only are they fantastic chefs, but they also excel at keeping things neat. The excitement does make them a bit giddy, but it adds to the fun they have.
Year 3- Class Worship- Can a robot do that?
During our class worship, the children discussed the advantages and disadvantages of having robots in our lives. Some of the advantages that the children came up with were, that the robots could clean their bedrooms, help them with their homework and have a little dance with them. The disadvantages they thought that could happen were the robot could get lazy, the robot could get bored or get carried away and throw a house party. We ended our class worship with a prayer thanking God for the technology enhancing our lives and the wonderful world.
Year 2 - DT
We had a brilliant afternoon, making our healthy sandwiches we designed last week. We prepared our ingredients by practising our cutting skills. Some of the vegetables were difficult to cut but using the bridge and claw techniques we were able to cut them up into nice sizes for our sandwiches. The children loved making their sandwiches and they were proud of their end results.
Year 2 - DT
This week, we continued our new DT topic for this half term. Last week we looked at our favourite healthy foods and which food group they fit into. This week we designed a healthy sandwich using some our favourite fruits and vegetables. The children will be able to practise their culinary skills next week when we make our sandwiches.
Year 1 D&T- Can you independently make a moving picture on the theme of remembrance?
In the creative area, Year 1 were set the challenge of independently applying their learning from their last D&T lesson to make a moving picture using sliding mechanisms. They tied this in with the theme of remembrance and made some poppies growing on the battlefield after the war, some soldiers moving side to side on the battlefield as they fought and continue to fight in the war and army aircraft moving through the air.
Y4 DT - Seasonal Stockings Commence
In our DT session this week we have been learning all about Christmas Stockings and where the idea originated from. We then moved onto analysing the form and function of various stockings then we looked at what makes each attractive and which people would prefer. We can’t wait to move onto designing our own on paper next week and selecting what materials we will use.
Foodie Friends Club
Today, after school, the Year 1 and Year 2 children in our 'Foodie Friends Club' had a great time. They made yummy cornflake cakes. The best part was when they broke the chocolate bar into pieces and saw it melt in the microwave. They had so much fun licking the extra chocolate from the spoon and bowl. They've decided that next week, they want to make chocolate chip cookies.
