Erin’s Place Christmas Decorations
Our Reception class won a competition from Erin’s Place in Darwen where they have had the opportunity to paint a Christmas ornament which will then be baked in a special oven. The children have tried hard with their fine motor skills to paint the fine details on the ornaments and we can’t wait to see the final result.
Year 3- D.T- Christmas Pouch
This term for our design and technology unit, the year 3 Christmas Elves have been busy making Christmas themed pouches. Prior to making the pouch, the children have carefully planned their pouch and thought about their design in detail. They have learnt how to sew fabric together using a running stitch, designing the front of their pouch and decorated it by using fabric glue to stick on embellishments to give that wow factor. They have also made sure that the pouch is functional and aesthetic. They have also evaluated their finished products by answering a series of questions. We are super proud of the dedication and enthusiasm that the children have shown throughout the planning and making of these products. We can't wait to showcase our products at our school Christmas Fair.
Year 6 DT
In DT, year 6 finally got round to completing their electronic loop game. They have produced some fantastic products with a Christmas theme and should be extremely proud of their work.

Foodie Friends Club- Christmas shaped biscuits
The Foodie Friends Club had a fabulous time today baking Christmas-shaped biscuits. Despite a bit of dough sticking to the table, they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Using various cutters, they created biscuits in the shapes of stars, Christmas stockings, snowmen, gingerbread men, and Christmas trees.
Year 5 - Christmas Cushions
Today, Year 5 completed their Christmas cushions and added their final details to match their designs. The cushions look amazing and Year 5 have been incredible making them. Well done.
Year 4 Christmas Stockings Commence
In our DT session we have finally moved onto the application of sewing skills. This week we added to the front of our stockings using over and running stitches. We used appliqué to add further embellishments and some children even managed to add bells and buttons.
Roman Battle Formations in Year 4
In our history lesson this week we discussed why the Roman army was so successful. We looked at why they were so powerful and disciplined. We then looked at how they used manoeuvres and drills to create various formations so that they could protect themselves from every angle in battle. We finished with a real life drill to see if Mrs Gardner could get through the children’s wedge formation that they created with their own shields. Not one boulder (ping pong ball) got through so well done Year 4 - it was a huge success!
Year 5 - Christmas Cushions
Year 5 have been continuing sewing their designs to their cushions. They have applied their sewing skills well and have made significant progress ready for their creative decorations to be applied.
Year 6 DT - Christmas loop game design
Year 6 continued their unit by designing their electrical loop games. They began by developing a design criteria: - The product should be for young children and have a Christmas theme to be sold at the Christmas fair. - The wire design needs to be made up of one continuous line. - The circuit needs to be concealed in the base. - All of the components used should contribute to a fully-functioning circuit. By developing this criteria, it allowed the children to produce a detailed 3D design of their game with annotations.
Foodie Friends Club- Making chocolate apples
Today, in our foodie friends club, we made chocolate apples. After melting the chocolate in a heatproof bowl, the children pushed a stick on their apple and dipped it into the melted chocolate. The children had a choice of coating the apple in dark or white chocolate. To give that extra touch, the children decorated it with marshmallows and sprinkles. And, of course, there was plenty of chocolate licking.
Year 6 DT
Year 6 started their DT unit by analysing existing games and toys. They discovered that toys serve more functions than just providing entertainment. They realised that they can develop gross and fine motor skills, help concentration, improve hand-eye coordination and aid imagination and creativity. These things were taken into account when analysing 3 real-life products and helped the children to decide whether they were fit for purpose.
