Craft Club Week 2
Today at Craft Club we learned about the art of decoupage and used it to decorate wooden photo frames. The children made some beautiful gifts for Mother’s Day! Next week: St Patrick’s Day crafts.
Week 2 Doodle and Dance
We’ve had another spectacular week in Doodle and Dance, and the energy in the room was absolutely infectious! Our young artists spent their creative sessions bringing a variety of characters to life on paper. From cuddly teddy bears and brave superheroes to colorful fish and zooming aeroplanes, it was wonderful to see their imaginations take flight. When it was time to move, the children jumped straight into our Just Dance sessions with incredible enthusiasm. They did a fantastic job following the rhythmic instructions and keeping up with the choreography. The absolute highlight of the week was definitely "Golden" by K-Pop Demon Hunters—it has officially become a group favourite! The children brought so much power and spirit to that routine, and it was the perfect way to wrap up our second week together.
Kids with Bricks Lego Club
This week was our first 'Kids with Bricks' Lego club! The theme for this week was telephones. We watched our weekly challenge video, which tasked us with creating our own telephone or communication device and we also learned some interesting facts about how and when telephones were first invented. We all had a really fun time and made some amazing Lego creations, photos of which will be sent in for the weekly, inter-school competition. An extra well done to our Builder of the Week - Samuel!
Craft Club
Today at Craft Club, we celebrated World Book Day week by making storybook characters from wooden spoons! We had characters from Tiddler, Harry Potter, Room on the Broom and The Little Mermaid. The children did a fantastic job of using the resources to come up with some fantastic creations! Some children even made matching miniature books to go with them. Next week at Craft Club: Mother's Day crafts!
Doodle and Dance Week 1
The children at Doodle and Dance turned a roll of wallpaper into a vibrant communal masterpiece today, filling the paper with colourful drawings of rainbows, hearts, flowers, and their favorite people and animals. The creative energy didn't stop at the drawing board, as the group quickly transitioned from artists to athletes for a high-spirited "Wake and Shake" dance session. It was a club of pure joy and imagination, leaving the room covered in art and the children full of smiles after dancing their hearts out.
Netball Club Returns
On Friday, we restarted our wonderful netball club and we had a fantastic turn out. It’s great to see so many children wanting to take up netball and learn new skills. This week we had a short warm up and the went straight into games. The children now have favourite positions but we decided to mix it up and play some game time out of positions too. We can’t wait to start the league after Easter!
Gifted & Talented Y5/6 Gym Club
Last night our first Gifted and Talented Gymnastics club started with Coach Liv. The children worked on their basic floor work skills and practiced skipping which was quite a challenge for some. We look forward to seeing their progress over the next six weeks.
Drama Club
Drama Club rehearsals are in full swing! We rehearsed our longest, most action packed scene and the children blew us away.
BwD Schools Y3/4 Sportshall Athletics
What a fantastic evening we have had attending the Blackburn with Darwen Schools Year 3/4 Sportshall Athletics event at DVHS. Team B were on fire, securing lots of wins over the course of the night and managed to come away with a silver medal. Well done to all involved and a special thank you to our amazing parents for transporting the children to and from the event amd being the best cheerleaders at the end! A huge thank you to Mrs Gardner and Mr Bloomfield for their brilliant coaching and encouragement!
The W.O.W. Group - Messy Church
Our fantastic W.O.W. Group have been busy planning and this week was our first messy church of the year. The theme was “promises” and the session began with a reading of the Parable of the Two Sons. The attendees compared the two sons in the story - the one that promised to do a job for his father but never did it, and the one who originally grumbled but then decided to help - and agreed that promises don’t mean anything if they are not kept. The W.O.W. Group then led an activity in which participants decorated promise jars and wrote down a promise that they vow to keep. They then drew messy church to a close with a prayer asking God to help us to keep our promises.
Doodle and Dance Club
This week our children learnt how to follow instructions to create a masterpiece. They all followed step by step instructions to create a Panda with bamboo, Mrs Wilkinson was extremely impressed with everyone's creations. Doodle and Dance will be back next half term for more fun!
Foodie Friends Club- Vanilla Snap Biscuits
We had a fantastic final session of Food Club today. The bakers put all their skills to the test to create some truly mouth-watering shaped biscuits. It was great to see how much their confidence has grown. They were busy weighing out the flour, cracking eggs with precision, and creaming the sugar until it was just right. Once the dough was ready, the children loved rolling it out and choosing from a variety of cutters to create their own unique biscuit designs.
