Year 6 RE
Today during RE, year 6 have been thinking about the impact of how the Bible teachings can deepen our understanding of God. We then moved on to consider different perspectives, focusing on the story of ‘The tower of Babel’, how people of that time would react to the story compared to us today.
Reception butterflies
Reception have really enjoyed learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. Today, they had a closer look at a cocoon and released the butterflies!
Poetry- Year 5
The children have been comparing poems and explaining their preferences. They have been identifying where they differ and are similar by giving a deeper appreciation and understanding of them. Thinking about the ways in which the poets have approached their subject matter.
Story and Craft Club
In story and craft club, we listened to a book called, ‘The Night Before Father’s Day.’ We discussed the special people in our lives and how we can make them feel loved. We then created a card for them.
Orienteering Competition @ Witton
Well done to our Year 6 Orienteering Squad who took part in the BwD competition at Witton Park today. The teams worked together, showed perseverance and sportsmanship to achieve great things. We had some super times and look forward to hearing the results!
Gifted and talented netball at BRFC
What a great start to the summer term. Three of our Year 6 girls took part in a gifted and talented netball session down at BRFC. The girls had a great time practising their netball skills and played a number of games. A representative from West Pennine netball also spoke to them all about joining West Pennine Netball Club, who train at Darwen Vale on Saturday mornings. If you would like your child to join, please email [email protected] or contact their facebook page. They have sessions for girls from reception class upwards.
Year 3 - French sentence writing
In French, Year 3 have been using prior learning of numbers, colours and fruit for writing in sentences. For example - Il y a six pommes vertes. ( There are six green apples.)
Class Worship- Year 5
During our class worship, we looked at the term 'referee'. The children shared experiences that they have had previously with referees in school and out of school. We looked at the job of a referee and how important the role of a referee is. We also discussed that we may not always agree with decisions made by the referees but without them, some games could not be played. It is important to always show respect to sports officials involved in the games we play.

Good evening new Reception parents and carers, I would like to warmly welcome you and your child into our St Barnabas school family. We are really looking forward to meeting you at our parents meeting on Thursday 16th June at 6.00pm. Here you will learn lots of things about St Barnabas, have an opportunity to ask any questions you might have and you can have a look around the Reception classroom. In the coming weeks our Reception teachers will be sending you information via class dojo about the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and about the transition to big school. Reception Royal Afternoon Tea
Reception are enjoying a real royal banquet of afternoon tea for their lunch today to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee! Delicious!
The Queens Platinum Jubilee Celebration - The Royal Variety Performance
What a fantastic morning we have had watching our ‘Royal Variety Performance’ . The 20 talented acts showcased a wealth of talents. Even the Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn with Darwen said it was a spectacular event and St Barnabas should be very humbled and proud to be part of such a lovely school family with many, many talents. What a way to show our thanks to her Majesty the Queen for her service to our country over the last 70 years!
