This morning, Years 1-6 gathered together for our first whole school worship of the new academic year and it was wonderful to have all of our children back together again looking smart in their school uniforms. Mrs Ham told us all that our current school building was 50 years old yesterday and this week we will be taking part in some activities to celebrate this. As we walked into the hall, we listened to some of the number 1 songs from 1972 which brought back memories for our staff team.To help the children understand how much has changed since 1972, Mrs Ham showed us some of the differences in the prices of things such as the price of a pint of milk, a house and a car. We were very shocked. We looked at what St Barnabas school looked like in the past. We recognised the first Old Culvert school in Whitehall as the current St Barnabas House Nursery but this became too small for all of the children of Whitehall so Mr. Eccles Shorrock (who built India Mill) donated some land across the road from the current site to build a new school which was much bigger. This school became St Barnabas school before moving up to our current location on Knowsley Road. We had lots of our children who said that their grandparents had been to the old St Barnabas School and we had a visitor called John East in our worship who had also been to this school and told us some interesting facts about it. We will all be going on a little field trip to go and look at these school buildings this week and looking at old photographs, registers and logs of our school. We ended our worship with a beautiful back to school prayer and a sing along to ‘Shine from the inside out.’
