Reception- Shrove Tuesday
The children in Reception have tried some pancakes for Shrove Tuesday. All the children tried the pancakes and enjoyed them. We discussed that Pancake Day is also called Shrove Tuesday. We talked about how Jesus went to the desert for forty days and forty nights with no food or water.
Year 1- R.E
In R.E we had a discussion about what makes Jesus special. We created some valentines hearts to give to someone who is special to us.
Reception: The Lost Sheep
As part of Reception’s learning on stories Jesus told, we read ‘The lost sheep’. The children thought about how the shepherd would have felt at the beginning and end of the story. We then made these faces and helped Mrs Wilkinson to read the story from our rhyming bible. The children said that he would have been scared and upset but then happy at the end when he found his lost sheep. Archie said “God is like the shepherd” and Evie said “we are like the sheep”. We discussed when we have been lost and who found us too.
Year 2 - Jesus healed a paralysed man
During our RE unit we have been focusing on Jesus’ miracles. We acted out Jesus healing a paralysed man and discussed: How the people may have felt? Did other people believe what they saw? What did Jesus want to teach us with his miracle?
Year 4 - Considering the qualities of a good King
In RE this week, we have been looking at the story of David and King Saul and deciding why David would have made a better king. We also realised that the qualities of a good king were very similar to the qualities of a good friend.
Year 2 - Jesus healed the blind
In year 2 we have started our new unit in RE - Jesus our friend. We looked at his miracles and in particular, Jesus healing the blind man. We acted out the story and gained a detailed understanding of Jesus’ messages and how we can be the light just as Jesus is.
Year 5 - Explore and Interpret Parables
In our R.E. lesson this afternoon, we worked in small groups exploring and interpreting familiar parables e.g. the Good Samaritan, the Sower, the Wise and Foolish builders, and the Lost Sheep.
Reception: Daniel in the Lion’s Den
Today in RE the children in Reception learnt what a parable was. They listened to the parable ‘Daniel and the Lion’s den’. They retold the story and then we discussed a time that we had been brave, just like Daniel.
Year 2 - Prayer Pail
During class workshop time year 2 have been creating their own prayer topics. The children came up with some amazing ideas and we prayed for: those in need, how to be kind, how to follow is Jesus’ footsteps and prayed for our friends and family.
Year 1- Epiphany
On Friday we learnt about Epiphany. It took 12 days for the kings to meet baby Jesus and so the Epiphany is celebrated on the 6th January. Epiphany comes from the Greek word which means ‘making known’. The kings followed a big star which helped to make people know that Jesus had been born. One important thing that the festival of Epiphany reveals is that God doesn’t have favourites but welcomes people from any background and any nationality. Year 1 painted images of the 3 kings on their journey to find baby Jesus.
Reception: RE
This week we have begun our unit of stories that Jesus heard. We began with listening to the story about Moses’ mummy. She had to hide him in the river to keep him safe. We discussed the story and looked at how our parents show us that they love us.
