Year 3 Present Their Learning: Rules For Living to Year 6
Today, Year 3 showed incredible oracy skills by presenting their learning to Year 6. They have been exploring the importance of rules in different parts of life, including our school rules, the law, and how faith guides people through the Ten Commandments. Using what they learned, the children wrote their own "Rule Poems." They worked hard on their writing, making sure to include: Modal verbs (like should or must) to show how important the rules are. Imperative verbs (bossy words like respect, listen, or help) to give clear instructions. The children were amazing and very brave to stand up in front of the older students. Mr Bloomfield even commented on how confident and clear everyone was while speaking. It was a wonderful way to see them use their voices to share such important messages about being good citizens!
Year 3- R.E- Rules Of Living
This afternoon, we continued to celebrate Earth Day by taking our "Rules for Living" lesson into the Peace Garden. Surrounded by God's nature, we took time to appreciate the world around us and think about how to live life in its fullness. We discussed how rules are not just about what we "can't" do, but are there to help us grow, much like Jesus taught us. We talked about how Jesus gave us the ultimate rules for living: to love God and to love one another. By following these guides, we learn how to look after our planet and each other with kindness and respect. It was a lovely, simple way to connect with the outdoors and reflect on the best way to live our lives.
Year 4 - RE: Are All Places of Worship the Same?
The first lesson of our new RE topic gave children the opportunity to explore a variety of places of worship from around the world. The children used Chromebooks to take virtual tours and make observations as they explored. Some of the children then gave the rest of the class a guided tour of their chosen place, sharing their observations as we took a look around.
Year 3- English/R.E- Exploring the Ten Commandments through Poetry
In today's English lesson, we explored the Ten Commandments to inspire our own "Rule Poems." We looked at how these Christian instructions still shape the way Christians live today and how they relate to the rules we follow in our own community. The children discussed how to take a commandment, like "Do not tell lies," and transform it into a poetic line about being a person of truth and integrity. We talked about how these Christian values are reflected in almost all religions and cultures. Even people who aren't religious follow similar "moral laws" to be good citizens. Do not be jealous" (Coveting) is actually about finding happiness and being thankful for what we have.
Year 3- English- Exploring Rules linking it to R.E
Today we started exploring how structure helps us convey a clear message in our writing. To create interest, we watched two contrasting clips: one of a chaotic kitchen on Mother's Day and another of a young girl cooking in a calm, organised space. We are using these clips to help us write poems, thinking about how we can use different structures to show either "order" or "chaos." We also linked this to our R.E. focus on rules and laws, discussing how rules are important because they keep us safe. The children reflected on how, without laws, our streets would be full of confusion, much like the messy kitchen. Ultimately, we learned that a rule is like a promise to look after one another, providing the same structure to our lives.
Year 2 - RE - Rev. Ben Eucharist visit
Year 2 were visited by Rev. Ben this week. He explained about the Eucharist and why it is so important in Christianity.
Year 3- R.E- Exploring Sadness and Joy with Rev Ben
This afternoon, we welcomed Rev Ben to our class to investigate the emotional journey of Holy Week through a deep discussion. We used our oracy skills to recap the Easter story and explore how church services transform from sadness to joy. Rev Ben explained that on Good Friday, the service is solemn and quiet to reflect the sadness of the cross. However, we also talked about how everything changes on Easter Sunday, when the church bursts into a joyful celebration with loud bells and happy songs to show that Jesus is alive. By talking and listening to Rev Ben, we learned that churches use different moods, sounds, and symbols to help people feel the big emotions of the Easter story.
Year 5 - Whitehall Park
To celebrate the end of term, after church we visited the rose garden at Whitehall Park to see the beautiful Easter crosses made by the children of St Barnabas. The crosses will be up for the Easter weekend for anyone who wants to inspect the work of our resident artists. As the weather was so nice, we stopped off at the playground and spent our break time on the swings and slides.
Year 6 - Hop, Skip and Jump - East Lancs Hospice
Today, our Year 6 children completed their hop, skip and jump challenge in support of East Lancs Hospice. They took part wearing their own beautifully decorated Easter crowns, adding a splash of colour and creativity to the event. We are so proud of their enthusiasm, effort and the way they came together for such a wonderful cause! Well done, Year 6!
Year 6 - Easter Artwork
Today, our Year 6 class took a trip to the Rose Garden at Whitehall Park to admire the amazing artwork on display. It was fantastic to see contributions not only from Year 6, but from pupils across the whole school. The artwork, inspired by different crosses, showcased a wide range of creative ideas, patterns and meanings, making it a truly special and thoughtful exhibition. The setting of the gardens made the experience even more enjoyable and the children were incredibly proud to spot their own pieces and share the inspiration behind their work with friends. A big well done to all our pupils for their dedication and creativity.
