Year 3- English- Exploring Rules linking it to R.E

Today we started exploring how structure helps us convey a clear message in our writing. To create interest, we watched two contrasting clips: one of a chaotic kitchen on Mother's Day and another of a young girl cooking in a calm, organised space. We are using these clips to help us write poems, thinking about how we can use different structures to show either "order" or "chaos." We also linked this to our R.E. focus on rules and laws, discussing how rules are important because they keep us safe. The children reflected on how, without laws, our streets would be full of confusion, much like the messy kitchen. Ultimately, we learned that a rule is like a promise to look after one another, providing the same structure to our lives.

Year 3- R.E- Exploring Sadness and Joy with Rev Ben

This afternoon, we welcomed Rev Ben to our class to investigate the emotional journey of Holy Week through a deep discussion. We used our oracy skills to recap the Easter story and explore how church services transform from sadness to joy. Rev Ben explained that on Good Friday, the service is solemn and quiet to reflect the sadness of the cross. However, we also talked about how everything changes on Easter Sunday, when the church bursts into a joyful celebration with loud bells and happy songs to show that Jesus is alive. By talking and listening to Rev Ben, we learned that churches use different moods, sounds, and symbols to help people feel the big emotions of the Easter story.

The crosses will be up for the Easter weekend for anyone who wants to inspect the work of our resident artists. As the weather was so nice, we stopped off at the playground and spent our break time on the swings and slides.

Year 6 - Easter Artwork

Today, our Year 6 class took a trip to the Rose Garden at Whitehall Park to admire the amazing artwork on display. It was fantastic to see contributions not only from Year 6, but from pupils across the whole school. The artwork, inspired by different crosses, showcased a wide range of creative ideas, patterns and meanings, making it a truly special and thoughtful exhibition. The setting of the gardens made the experience even more enjoyable and the children were incredibly proud to spot their own pieces and share the inspiration behind their work with friends. A big well done to all our pupils for their dedication and creativity.

Year 4 - Visit to the Rose Garden

At the start of Holy Week, the Year 4 class walked to the Rose Garden to create our Easter art gallery and then explore each class’s work. This year, each class took part in the A-Cross the World project. They chose a cross from a different part of the world and used it for inspiration to decorate their own crosses. After spending some time exploring the crosses in pairs, the Year 4 children took part in a quiz to locate specific crosses based on information from the background story or the technique used to create them. They had a great time exploring and choosing their favourite crosses.
