Collective Worship - Odd Socks Day
This morning we gathered as a whole school and spoke about why we were all wearing odd socks to launch anti bullying week. We celebrated how God created us all unique and special. The theme for anti-bullying week is 'Power for Good' so we discussed the amazing powers that we can show others including kindness, love, respect and friendship. We then watched a special Odd Socks Day video from the 'Living out God's big story' series and reflected on how we can learn from Jesus; to always be kind, forgiving and respectful to others. We then did a fun dancing prayer showing off our odd socks and then went on to sing ‘build up’ and ‘make a difference’.
Year 1 Odd Socks Day
Year 1 loved showing off their odd socks in support of Anti-Bullying week. They even designed some odd socks in the Creative Area.
Year 3- PSHE-Celebrating individuality by wearing Odd Socks
Year 3 kicked off Anti-Bullying Week by wearing odd socks and exploring ways to support themselves and others who might feel left out or picked on. Miss Barnes led the lesson, using a variety of scenarios to help the children understand how they can make a positive difference. They discussed what to do if someone is excluded from a game, if a classmate is called names, or if unkind messages are sent online. The children also considered how to respond when rumours are spread, and how small acts of kindness, such as welcoming a new student at lunchtime, can have a big impact. The lesson provided practical strategies for standing up for each other, celebrating individuality, and fostering a kinder, more supportive school community.
Wellbeing Warriors Wow Challenge - October
In our Wellbeing Warriors meeting today, the children identified who had done enough walks or park and strides and to gain their October badges. We are thrilled to see that so many children are trying so hard to make their journey to school a healthier one. The girls went through each class highlighting names and then collecting the right amount of badges which they will give out in Worship tomorrow. Another great achievement is that St Barnabas have managed to come third place in the Blackburn with Darwen Top Ten Leader Board for Autumn 2025 which shows that our engagement rate is outstanding!

Year 6 - Money Matters
During our Money Matters session this week, the children learned about the importance of understanding money and how it is used in everyday life. The children explored different ways people earn, spend, save and budget money and discussed why making sensible financial choices is important. The children took part in engaging activities and role-play scenarios to help them think about needs versus wants and how to make responsible spending decisions. The session encouraged thoughtful discussion and helped the children develop a better understanding of how money plays a role in their lives and the wider world.
Reception: Muddy Monday
The children in Reception went to Jacks Key for their Muddy Monday session. They found lots of natural resources to build bonfires in preparation for Bonfire night on Wednesday. The children then went on a rainy walk and showed great perseverance and resilience. The children all worked well together and it is lovely to see them continuing to develop during these sessions.
Year 3 - English-Classical Poetry: The Spider and Fly
This week, Year 3 writers have started their classical poetry unit, and they are thoroughly enjoying the famous cautionary poem, ‘The Spider and the Fly’. They’ve been actively exploring new vocabulary central to the poem’s setting and theme, including words like parlour (a formal sitting room), pantry (a food storage cupboard), and especially flattering (insincere, sweet-talking praise). Most importantly, they are learning about the poem’s moral lesson: the danger of believing flattering words from someone who has a deceitful or harmful motive.
Reception PSHE - Helping Others
This week in PSHE, we have been thinking about feelings and ways we can help others if they are feeling sad, scared or worried. We talked about the choices we could make to cheer up our friends and family when they need it, such as giving them a hug, making them something, asking if they are OK or giving them a small gift. We then made our own rice crispie cakes with the intention of giving these to someone we know to make them feel happy and loved. Although we’re not sure if many of the cakes made it home - they looked rather delicious!

Reception: Child Initiated Learning
The children were very excited to set up their own coffee shop today. They came up with their own drinks such as chocolate milkshakes and malteser hot chocolates and took turns to serve each other. A huge thank you to Sophia from 1617 for supplying us with lots of goodies to use.
PSHE Feelings Reception
This afternoon Reception took some time in PSHE to think of others, to recognise how someone may be feeling and discuss what they could do to help. We had some lovely suggestions including making a cake. We then took our idea outside and took turns to make a special cake to give to someone. The children enjoyed mixing, encouraging their friends and also decorating the cakes so they are all unique just like us.
