Year 6 - Netball
During our netball lesson, the children focused on working effectively in tight spaces, using accurate passing and movement to maintain possession of the ball. They practised quick, controlled passes and learned how to create space by changing direction and supporting teammates. The children began to apply simple tactics, such as marking opponents, intercepting passes and choosing when to pass or move. The session emphasised teamwork, communication and decision-making, with the children reflecting on how working together and thinking tactically improved their overall performance.
Doodle and Dance Club
Children from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 had great fun in their first doodle and dance club run by Mrs Wilkinson. They doodled on wallpaper and drew their favourite things and then all had a dance to lots of different songs. We can't wait for next week.
KS2 DPSSA Football League
A huge well done to our St.Barnabas football team, who have competed brilliantly over the past few weeks. Finishing 5th out of 13 schools in a very competitive league is a fantastic achievement and they should be hugely proud of themselves. A huge thank you to Me Bloomfield for his coaching and to the parents and carers who came along to support!
Gifted and Talented Gymnastics Club
Our Gifted and Talented Key Steps Gymnastics club started last night and the children loved their first session. Our specialist coaches went through parts of the routine covering both body management and floor exercise. We can’t wait to see how the children progress over the next few weeks and establish their routines.
Year 5 - Gymnastics
In gymnastics, we revisited the fundamental actions such as tuck, straddle and pike. The children then practised a variety of balances with their partners, moving from simple balances where one body part is touching the floor all the way to balances involving three body parts. We then explored a number of lifts using their partner for support. The children then had the opportunity to perform a sequence to the class.
Year 1 PE: Underarm Throw
Yesterday we focused on our underarm throwing. We started by throwing a beanbag into a hoop with our dominant arm, before swapping to our non-dominant arm. The children noticed that it was much harder. Then, we tried to get the beanbag onto a marker spot inside of the hoop, which meant we had to focus more on our aim. To challenge ourselves, we swapped the beanbag for a quoit, which made us focus on the way we held the object in our hand as holding it the wrong way made the quoit roll. The children tried really hard with this and showed lots of resilience and determination.
Year 3 Welcome Blackburn Rovers for GULP Project
We are delighted to welcome Blackburn Rovers to Year 3 for a four-week programme. They are delivering the GULP (Give Up Loving Pop) campaign, a fantastic initiative by Food Active, to help our students understand the health risks associated with sugary drinks. Today, the children kicked things off by learning all about what’s really inside their favourite sodas and how to make healthier choices.
Year 6 - Netball
This week, Year 6 began their invasion games unit with a focus on netball. The children explored the core principles of effective passing and receiving, including accuracy, timing, movement into space and communication. They took part in a series of rondo-style games designed to develop quick decision-making, maintaining possession and supporting teammates. These activities helped the children to understand how to keep the ball moving under pressure and apply these skills within a game-like context.
Year 3, Living Life to its Fullness- Whitehall Park
After viewing the artwork in the Rose Garden, Year 3 received a surprise treat: a visit to Whitehall Park. Joined by Year 4, the children made the most of the fresh air and sunshine before heading back to the classroom. It was a beautiful reminder of the importance of living life to its fullness, finding joy in creativity, friendship, and the world around us.
Reception class visit the Rose Garden
Reception class enjoyed their visit to the Rose garden. They looked at all of the Advent art and some of the children were proud to see their artwork. The children sang carols together and they all went to the playground as a special treat.
Year 1 PE: Overarm Throwing
Yesterday, we practiced our overarm throwing skills. We practiced standing with our opposite leg forward and using our opposite arm to aim. We practiced throwing into hoops, on marker spots and through cones. They found it tricky but really persevered. Well done Year 1!
Year 3- P.E- Dance- Movement Through Moore's Masterpiece
In P.E. today, Year 3 immersed themselves in the festive world of Clement Clarke Moore's classic poem, "Twas the Night Before Christmas," through an exciting dance and movement session. The children began by setting the scene, transforming into snowflakes and then growing tall and majestic like Christmas trees, establishing a winter context. They used movement to become the inhabitants of the Christmas house, demonstrating the quiet and stillness before the main event. The children then created fantastic dance sequences to show the arrival of St. Nicholas (Santa Claus) and practiced galloping and soaring as his reindeer flying through the night sky. The second half of the session focused on the act of giving. The children used collaborative movement to help Santa Claus unload his sleigh and carefully fill the stockings with presents. The session concluded with a flourish: we watched Santa’s final, swift departure and enjoyed one last exhilarating ride across the floor as Santa's magnificent reindeer. Amazing listening and dancing from all the children. Well done!
