Whole School Singing Worship - Monday
In singing worship this morning, our whole school came together to welcome in the new week. We had lots of fun singing our favourite Easter songs and teaching them to our Reception class. The whole school joined in as Year 3 began by singing We have a King who rides a donkey, followed by Year 5 with Lord of the dance, Year 2 led us with Give me oil in my lamp, and finally Year 6 led us in a very energetic rendition of He is alive! A great way to fuel our energy and mindfulness for the week ahead!
Year 3- Music- Developing Ukulele Technique
In music today, the children explored the fundamentals of stave notation, learning how it functions as a visual map for reading music. They developed their ukulele technique by mastering both thumb and finger strumming, which they then applied to reading and playing rhythmic patterns. To finish, the children took on the role of composers, creating their own stave notation for the class to perform together as an ensemble.
Year 3-West End Choreography Workshop-Pinocchio
Today, the entire school was buzzing with creativity as we took part in a fantastic West End Workshop based on the story of Pinocchio. Our guest choreographer, James, was absolutely brilliant, bringing the magic of the theatre directly to our pupils. The children focused on rehearsing and perfecting the second half of the story, working hard to synchronise their movements and add expressive actions to their performances. It was truly amazing to see everything come together during our final whole-school assembly, where the narrative was told through a seamless collaborative performance. Year 3 were truly in their element, showing incredible enthusiasm and confidence throughout the day. Well done to everyone!
Year 6 Junior Jam: Music
This week, Year 6 began their new music unit on the ukulele. The children explored the instrument and got used to holding it correctly. They also learned and practised some basic chords. Some children had a go at performing what they had learned for the rest of the class.
Year 5 - Music
Year 5 developed their aural skills by playing music by ear, focusing on pitch and rhythm. We identified these features of songs before repeating them on keyboards and playing short melodies. The lesson finished with groups performing to the class.
Year 5 - Music
Mr Hannon recapped the ideas from previous lessons, with a discussion of chords, triads and accompaniment. The lesson then introduced how to construct chords using specific hand positions to play the chords C, F and A minor within the song “Stay with Me” by Sam Smith. The children then created their own chord progressions and melodic improvisations.
Drama Club: Prop Making
Drama Club has been fantastic these past weeks. All the children have now auditioned and will receive their roles this week. They have been working really hard to create swords and shields for our show telling the story of Troy. Its great to see their enthusiasm and commitment.
Year 6 Junior Jam - Music
This week in our Junior Jam music session, the children continued their keyboards unit. They began by recapping reading musical notation, learning fun mnemonics to help them remember the notes. They were then tasked with learning a new song: Pitter Patter, which some children performed to the rest of the class.
Year 5 - Music
In this lesson, children were introduced to musical notation such as quavers, semi quavers and crotchets. We also studied time signatures and how they are used to count in music. The different time signatures we looked at were 4/4, 3/4 and 2/4.
Choir- Let's Go Sing Workshop
Our choir had their final workshop from Rose today in preparation for their Let's Go Sing concert on Wednesday 18th March. Rose was extremely impressed with the children. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here: https://iceaccount.co.uk/lets-go-sing/event/?event_id=8360 Please choose tickets in yellow block to see the children. Thanks, Mrs Wilkinson
Doodle and Dance Club
Children from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 had great fun in their first doodle and dance club run by Mrs Wilkinson. They doodled on wallpaper and drew their favourite things and then all had a dance to lots of different songs. We can't wait for next week.
Year 2 - Music - Creating and performing bass lines
This week Year 2 revised the definition of, genre, beat and rhythm. They then went on to name as many music genres as possible. Working in pairs Year 2 were challenged to create a bass line to a funk song. Some children were then able to perform their bass lines to the whole class. Well done Year 2!
