Year 2 - Problem solving
This week in maths we are coming to the end of our unit in money and we have been focusing on problem solving questions regarding change. Children used their rekenrek’s to solve problems relating to money change.
Year 5- D.T- Parent Engineer
WOW!!!! The Year 5 class were thrilled to learn all things engineering. The class of engineers were very lucky to meet a parent who works as an engineer. He answered questions which the children had prepared before his visit. The children were inspired by to his journey. They were fascinated to learn about his job, what his job involves and the places he has travelled to in order to become as successful as he has today. He highlighted the importance of designing something first, then producing it and watching it work. The children learnt about different types of engineering such as constructional engineer and electronic engineer. The children have now been left with a project to make a floating ball, windmill, air conditioning unit, sailing boat and a moving vehicle.
Year 1 Find the Difference
Yesterday in maths, Year 1 were looking at finding the difference in partners using pegboards. The children had different coloured pegs and lined them up in rows. They each had a different amount of pegs and compared the amounts in order to find the difference between the two amounts. We have been looking at subtraction within 20 before the half term and we are finishing our subtraction unit this week.
Year 4 Maths - Finding missing lengths to calculate the perimeter
In our maths lesson today we have been working hard to calculate missing lengths in order to find the total perimeter. We found that sometimes you need to add the lengths and sometimes you need to subtract them to find the answer.
Year 6 Money Matters
Year 6 had a visit from the money matters team this week. They discussed issues such as gambling and borrowing. The children took a keen interest in the issues raised as it is something that could directly affect them in the future.
Reception - Maths
This week we have been exploring numbers to 10. We looked at how to do this quickly using ‘5 and a bit’. We practised grouping 5 children together, so we knew not to keep counting them! We then counted on from 5 to make our total number. The children then used cubes and our part whole models to make different numbers. In continuous provision, the children also looked at writing numerals, counting objects and 1 more/1 less. They have worked so hard, well done!
Reception Maths- More and Fewer
In maths, the children have completed a maths sheet where they had to count and colour the groups of objects. They had to compare groups of objects using the words ‘more’ and ‘fewer.’
Year 5- Maths- Fractions
In maths, the children have been finding methods to identify equivalent fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers using a variety of representations, including fractions of shapes, number lines, and fraction walls as well as the abstract form, so that they understand the relationships.
Reception Maths- heavy and light
This week the children have been using the pan balance to explore heavy and light objects. They have been identifying what happens to the pan balance when a heavy object is put in one side and a light object is put in the other. They have also been looking at ways to make the pan balance balance by making both sides equal.
Year 2 - Money
This week in year 2 we have started our money unit in maths. We have been exploring the value of coins, collecting an amount and exploring many ways in which we can make a set amount of money; using different coins.
Year 1- Number bonds to 20
In maths we’ve progressed onto number bonds to 20. We worked in pairs to find different ways to make 20 with maths equipment.
Reception - Maths
We have been learning all about the number 6. We practised forming the number, showing 6 quickly in our ‘flashy fingers’ game and making 6 in all different ways using the part, part whole model. Well done Reception!
