Year 5- Science- Egg Zip Line Challenge
The Year 5 scientists had a fun science afternoon. They made parachutes to learn about air resistance and tried out egg zip lines. They made special harnesses using pipe cleaners to safely transport eggs down the zip wire. It was a great way for them to learn about science and engineering whist having fun!
Year 4 - Circuits Dance
We are having great fun putting together our Year 4 dance routine. We are taking inspiration from our science and DT work on circuits.
Year 3 Food Technology: Savoury Cracker
In Design and Technology, Year 3 have been practising their cutting, slicing and spreading skills in preparation for making our own sandwiches. We prepared our own savoury crackers and thought about how we need to get ready to cook, by washing our hands and getting our ingredients ready. Before preparing our crackers, we learnt about using the bridge cut and claw grip, to ensure we are cutting and slicing safely.
Year 4 Design & Technology - Designing an alarm
In DT today, we have been designing our very own alarm system with a push to make it a push to break switch. The children thought really carefully about their design, what it could be made for and how their circuit would look. We also looked at a book called ‘ When I grow up’ which has been written by some local business owners called Elektec, who we will be having into school in the next few weeks to discuss all things electrical and construction.
Year 3 DT- Taste testing
Year 3 had a very exciting afternoon taste testing different sandwiches. They all had the opportunity to try 4 different sandwiches which they then logged the ingredients for and thought about what they could add to their lunch to make it a healthy meal.
Reception: Easter Launch
Today, we read ‘Clever Cub and the Easter Surprise’. We learnt about the Easter story. Elijah said “Jesus died on the cross”. Eva said “Jesus came back alive”. Lyla said “it was a miracle”. We then had a look at a hot cross bun and how it has a cross in it. It reminds us all of how Jesus died on the cross. We all tried a hot cross bun- they were very yummy!
Year 4 - Making Scientific Predictions
In Year 4, we are loving our science unit on electricity so far. This week we examined different diagrams and predicted whether we thought the series circuits would work. We then built the circuits and found out if our predictions were correct.
Reception: Designing a fire engine
As part of our learning all about superheroes, we have been making fire engines in our malleable area. Before the children could make their fire engine, they were set a challenge of designing their fire engine and labelling it. They then followed their design to build their fire engine. Super work!
Reception: Caring for our Environment
Today, we discussed what recycle, reuse and reduce meant. The children discussed what bins we find at school and what bins we have at home. We discussed why it is important to recycle. Did you know that some bottles can be recycled to make a part of a plane? The children were amazed! The children went outside to look at our recycle bins as they look very different to the ones we have at home. We also discussed how we can reduce waste and reuse. The children did some junk modelling to show how we can reuse boxes and different objects. We discussed how important it is to look after and care for our world.
Year 5- Design and Technology- Electrical System
This term in D.T. the Year 5 class has been applying knowledge of circuits to practical activities. The children worked in small groups to create a moving toy vehicle using a battery-powered electric car that is able to move forward and reverse as well as having lights that can be switched on and off, they have made an air conditioning unit, a windmill, floating boat, and a floating ball. The children took inspiration from a parent engineer, who left a set of materials for us to work with, including a battery, a DVD motor with a connector, and a propeller. The children were thrilled with the outcome.
Year 5- Art- Space Imagery
In Art, Year 5 have been thinking about what the future might look like. They created their own futuristic artworks and printed a background using marble ink to create a galaxy effect. They have taken inspiration from Teis Albers's piece 'Moonwalk' and Andy Warhols’ ‘Moonwalk’ artwork. They have used their art sketchbooks to record their observations and to review and revise their ideas. They have looked at illustrations from the ‘Space Race’ era: exploring how imagery was used and how it influenced art and design and evaluated images using knowledge of the formal elements. They have generated, developed, modelled, and communicated their ideas through discussion, annotated sketches, and cross-sectional and exploded diagrams.
Year 3 DT
During design and technology each member of the class was given a picture representing a food item, we then went onto the MUGA where different food group stations were set up. Year 3 were then tasked with placing their food item into the correct food group. They then switched pictures so they had turns in different food groups. We then thought about what ingredients are needed to create a ‘composite meal’.
