Year 6 - Darwen Art Project
Year 6 had the amazing opportunity to take part in the Darwen Art Project. As part of this, our class worked together to design and create a stunning autumn-themed window display, showcasing our creativity and teamwork. Afterwards, we took part in a fascinating heritage walk around Darwen, where we explored the town’s past, discovered important landmarks and learned more about the history that has shaped our community. It was a wonderful experience that allowed us to celebrate both art and local heritage.
Year 2 Art- Making Clay Pots
Today in their art lesson, Year 2 enjoyed making a clay pot and decorating it. In order to do this successfully, they learnt some new skills such as pinching, scoring, making and applying slip. The scoring and application of slip helped them with the process of decorating their pot. They turned out amazingly well especially for a first attempt- well done Year 2!
Soap Sculptures in Year 4
In art this week, we created soap sculptures with the theme of rainforest animals. We first drew a design for a three-dimensional piece and then we began to carve using a variety of tools to model and refine our sculptures. We discussed how to use the tools safely and that only carving small pieces at a time prevented the soap from cracking and breaking. Some of the children realised that to enhance their pieces they could dip their fingers into water and make the soap smoother. The finished articles were super impressive!
Craft Club Session 1
We had our first Craft Club session of the year today! The children from Year 1 to 6 designed and made felt banners. I was really impressed with their designs, but also how they took their time and persisted when they found it difficult. Well done everyone!
Year 1-Animal Masks
This week Year 1 have worked really hard on making their animal masks in the Creative Area. They have thought about how the animals would feel. For example, they have added feathers to the owl masks, felt to the lion masks, smooth green paper for their frog masks, rough paper for their snakes and sequins for the fish scales. Well done Year 1!
Year 2 Art- Exploring Clay
Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed their art lesson this week, exploring the creative possibilities of clay. They had the opportunity to manipulate the material through rolling, flattening, pinching, and marking. They are already looking forward to our next lesson.
Reception - Self Portraits
This week, Reception have been looking at their facial features in order to paint self-portraits. We talked about features such as eye colour and how they are all different to each other. We used mirrors to look at our own features so we could select the correct colours to use for our paintings.
Year 4 Art - The Role of a Curator
In our first art session we looked at the role of a curator within an art gallery. We explored what a curator does, what skills they need and how they decide on what is displayed. Following this we then explored Tate Kids which is described as an arty playground for kids. There were so many different features to access but we especially loved Tate paint and draw. You can study lots of different artists here, take part in quizzes and even upload your very own creations into the Tate kids gallery so that other children can look at the master pieces that we produce. What a great first session!
Year 1 Art: self-portrait
Our school is creating a lovely rainbow display with each child’s own portrait. Our class colour is orange. Year 1 have made a brilliant effort with their self-portraits. They added in their facial features such as eyebrows, mouth, eyes and nose. These will also be displayed in the corridor outside of our classroom.
Year 5 Artwork
As part of an exciting new school family display, Year 5 were tasked with creating a self-portrait exclusively in the colour purple. All of the children have done a fantastic job and created some beautiful artwork!
Year 2 Art- Printing Self Portraits
For the art display in the infant corridor, Year 2 have been busy creating their own self-portraits. They created an outline of their faces using black paint before transferring this onto a white piece of paper to create a print. Finally, they added some colour to their prints applying their knowledge of contrasting colours on the colour wheel. Well done Year 2, they look amazing!
Year 6 - Class Portraits
As part of the whole-school portrait display, Year 6 created their own unique portraits in shades of pink, completing the final colour of the school rainbow. Each portrait reflected the individuality and creativity of the pupils, while together they formed a powerful symbol of unity across the school.
