Worship with Rev. Matt

This morning’s worship with Rev. Matt focused on the theme of perseverance. It began with a challenge where the children had to work together to keep an inflatable in the air without letting it touch the ground. As the game went on, they quickly realised that success required teamwork, determination and persistence. Following the challenge, Rev. Matt introduced a parable from the Bible—the story of the unjust judge. He explained how the woman in the story kept returning to the judge, refusing to give up until she received justice. This demonstrated the power of persistence, showing that when we truly believe in something, we must keep trying and not lose heart. Rev. Matt linked this to prayer, reminding the children that when we speak to God, we should be just as persistent. The children then took a moment for reflection, considering the question: What is something you could pray for this week? They were encouraged to think about personal challenges, hopes for others or things happening in the world that they could bring to God in prayer. To conclude, Rev. Matt left the children with a powerful message: when we knock on God’s door through prayer, He will answer. This message reinforced the importance of faith, patience and perseverance in our relationship with God.

Reception - tissue paper collages

As part of our Art unit, we have been looking at different ways to be crafty using different materials. Last week we learnt about how we can manipulate tissue paper to create a new effect on our art work. We scrunched up the tissue and glued it to a sea creature template, making sure we filled the template to create a colourful effect and new texture.

Year 1 Dance

Year 1 had another gear dance session today with Miss Jess from Rothwell Arts. They enjoyed an ‘Under the Sea’ themed warm up. They put on their wetsuits, flippers etc. and dived into the water. Whilst swimming around, they spotted various sea creatures such as a crab, stingray, sea snake and a shark. Year 1 then enjoyed a few minutes of stretching before going over the dance moves that they’ve learnt so far such as ‘The Smurf’ and ‘The Bart Simpson’ before continuing to add to their dance sequence. To cool down, they played a couple of games including ‘Pass on the Clap.’ You’re improving week on week- Well done Year 1!

Year 2 - Counting pounds and pence

This week in Maths we have been practising counting pounds and pence. On Monday, we counted just pence and Tuesday just pounds. Today we counted both together. This relied on our 2, 5 and 10 times tables being well learnt. It needed a little practice to transfer our knowledge of counting into the coins. We compared them to base 10 in order to see that a 50p coin has 5 tens in it. This helped us to notice all of the tens and ones we needed to count. After we had been successful, we removed the base 10 and the coins were less abstract allowing us to count with more confidence.

We talked about the things we watch that make us feel happy and safe and must always check with a grown up. Thank you to Josh, Sofia and Ruby for leading so brilliantly.

Year 3- Class Worship Delivered by WOW Group- Should YouTube have more rules for younger users?

Leonora, began class worship by asking the children to sign the trinity. Year 3, then discussed a news story about the UK government asking video platforms like YouTube and TikTok to feature more educational content for children. This led to a class discussion on whether YouTube should have stricter rules for younger users. We concluded with a prayer, asking for guidance in choosing positive content and for strength to support those who might be easily influenced.

Year 5 R.E: The Good Samaritan

In R.E, Year 5 have been discussing the parable of The Good Samaritan. They thought about the lesson that this parable teaches us - to be kind, show compassion and treat all of our neighbours equally and with respect. They took part in some drama work, taking on the role of the characters and thinking about their thoughts and feelings. The children then drew upon their recent English work on diary entries and wrote eye-witness accounts about The Good Samaritan.
