Year 2 Class Worship- Inclusivity

Year 2 focused on inclusivity in their class worship this morning. They looked at the new range of Barbie and Ken dolls that are now available to buy in shops. This included the first Ken doll with vitiligo, and a Barbie doll with a prosthetic limb and another with a wheelchair. They also look at the new Barbie doll that Strictly Come Dancing star Rose Ayling-Ellis has also unveiled with a hearing aid. Year 2 talked about how this is wonderful and helps children from different backgrounds and with different disabilities feel included. They ended the worship by singing ‘We Can Make a Difference’ and by saying some beautiful prayers.

Loving Library time!

Today is National Read a Book Day! We have loved choosing our first reading book of the year from our updated library. We have used the ‘recommended reads’ and ‘new to the library’ displays, that our amazing librarians created, to help us to choose an exciting new book. We can’t wait to read them! We also learnt lots of library skills such as how to put the books back with the spine facing out and in alphabetical order.

Learning about the Bible and other holy books- Year 5

This afternoon, the children in Year 5 have been learning about the Bible and other holy books and faiths. We have explored, Sikhism, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism. The children had the opportunity to try on clothes that are worn by other religions during prayer time. We learnt that the Jews have a special Seder plate. The plate symbolises modern liberation struggles. We also found that prayer beads (string of prayer beads) are used by numerous religions.

Reception: Classroom rules

Today, the children in Reception discussed why we have rules. They shared that we have rules to keep us safe and happy. Together we decided on our rules to help to keep us safe. We decided on ‘high 5 rules’ and if we follow them then we will receive a high 5. Our rules are to be kind, to always tell the truth, to listen to each other, to tidy our classroom and to try our best.
