Year 2 - Junior Jam
This week in junior jam, year 2 have been learning about a variety of music genres, creating lyrics and exploring different music styles.
Year 4 - Planning a Narrative
We have really enjoyed planning our own dilemma stories today in Year 4. We used the plot from the story The Balaclava Boy and innovated it to plan an updated version of the story. Instead of balaclavas, there were lots of mentions of iPhones and Fitbits.
Year 4 - Handwriting Practice
We are working hard on improving our handwriting and the hard work is really paying off! Keep up the good work, Year 4!
Year 3 English- Making Predictions
Year 3 have started looking at a new English topic. They watched a short video which contained no words, they then made predictions on how the characters mindset impacted the story.
Reception: Rhyme time
We had a brilliant rhyme and story time this morning in Reception. Thank you to our Mummies and Grandma’s who came today. Rhyme time is on every Wednesday morning at 9am. Preschool children and parents from Reception are welcome to join us.
Year 3 Art- tints and shades
Year 3 have had lots of fun in art this week, our challenge was to create a picture using the skill of shading. We did this using paints, mixing either white or black to change the shade of their original colour. Their art work is all unique and very effective. Well done Year 3!

New year, new Twitter?
Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics Stars
A huge well done to our athletics squad who came 2nd in the Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics competition tonight at Darwen Vale. We had the largest squad there which meant that so many children got to represent our school in at least one event. We had a brilliant evening and were so proud of the way the children encouraged each other. We were certainly the loudest school! A huge thank you to Mrs Gardner and Mr Bloomfield for their time and dedication to coaching the children and to our parents for helping with transporting the children.
Year 5 - Explore and Interpret Parables
In our R.E. lesson this afternoon, we worked in small groups exploring and interpreting familiar parables e.g. the Good Samaritan, the Sower, the Wise and Foolish builders, and the Lost Sheep.
Year 5- Facts and Opinions
In writing this week, Year 5 has started a new writing unit. They will develop their voices by producing a persuasive letter to encourage parents and families to buy fairtrade products. Prior to that the children have been identifying statistics from a range of sources and identifying facts and opinions.
Year 1- Human and Physical features
This afternoon in geography we have been looking at human and physical features in the UK. We decided to have a wander up to Jack Keys to see if we could spot some human and physical features in Darwen.
Year 5 - Science- Timezone Data
In science, the Year 5 class have been working out different times across the world using time zone data. They have used knowledge and skills learned from previous lessons to guide them. They have used a globe and torch to demonstrate how the Earth rotates and orbits around the Sun.
