Year 6 P.E.
In P.E. Year 6 continued to develop their forehand and backhand strokes. The children who were demonstrating consistency in those strokes started to develop rallies with the net being used as an obstacle. It was important that the children continued to apply the basics, but react to the bounce of the ball by moving their feet quickly.
KS2 Author Visit
Yesterday, the children in KS2 were lucky enough to have a visit from Richard Alker. Richard is the author of the book ‘My Grandad vs the Fangazoo’. The children were truly immersed in his session and had many questions to ask Richard about his life and how he became an author. During the session, he discussed various things: what inspired him to write, character development, simple strategies he uses when writing and finally the children had the chance to listen to a book reading. Thank you Richard!

Year 5 - Dance - Earthlings
Year 5 have been continuing their dance unit this half term all based around earthlings. The children used their scientific knowledge of planets to create a dance sequence that would represent their chosen planet. The children focused on: movement, levels, transitions, expression and emotion while creating their sequence. All the children performed their sequence and then used constructive feedback to improve their performances.
Year 5 - Orienteering
This week, Year 5 continued with practising their orienteering skills. The children worked well in teams to read maps and locate items based around the school. The children understood the concept of orientation and navigated their maps well in order to complete their tasks in the most efficient way.
Year 2 - Maths
Today in maths, we continued our learning with multiplication. We made equal groups of counters which we added together. From this we were able to write our multiplication sentence with the multiply symbol. Once we had created our groups, when then moved the counters into stacks. This is called unitising, it made it easier to see that 1 group does not always have a value of 1.
Reception: The Last Supper
Today the children listened to the story of the last supper. They thought about what Jesus did because he loved everyone. Before Jesus and his disciples sat down to eat, Jesus washed their hands and feet. Harry was Jesus and the rest of the class were the disciples. We role-played the story and thought about what Jesus did.
Year 3 - The History of Women’s Football
Today during class worship we looked into the history of women’s football. Year 3 were very interested in learning about what women have faced in the past and how the game is evolving to include women. We discussed the importance of encouraging and supporting each other. The boys in class can’t wait to cheer on the girls on Friday when they take part in a football tournament in support of International Women's Day.
Year 6 Science
This week, we started our new unit in Science, which is all about evolution and inheritance. We looked at the term ‘Natural Selection’ and discovered that if an animal is unable to adapt to its surroundings, it is more likely to become extinct. We then carried out an investigation involving some matchsticks on the MUGA. This demonstrated the benefits of being camouflaged and how animals are more likely to survive if they blend into their surroundings. The green matchsticks were picked up the least; however, numerous multicoloured matchsticks were not so lucky as they were gathered by our predators.
Year 4 - Science: Electrical Circuit Challenges
In science this week, the Year 4 children have been learning the names and symbols of different components in a series circuit. They drew the scientific symbols and then were challenged to build different circuits based on key questions; ‘Can you make the bulb light up?’, ‘Can you make the buzzer sound?’, ‘Can you control when you want the circuit to work?’
Year 4 - PE: Orienteering
It was an extremely physical orienteering session for the Year 4s this week. The children were using a map of the school grounds to locate specific posts around the outside of the school. In pairs, they were given a letter to locate. They had to firstly ensure they had their maps facing north, and then they had to figure out where their given letter was. When they found their letter they had to remember the two-digit number on the post and return to the leader with the answer. They were then sent off to find another letter. All of the children had great fun exploring the school grounds with their maps, and showed some fantastic map-reading skills.
