Year 6 - Year of Prayer
As part of our Year of Prayer, the focus this week has been to immerse some fruit/herb tea bags in warm water and then to smell them to see if we could identify which flavour they were. We then said prayers to thank God for the variety of fruit and vegetables that he has provided us with to eat.
Whole School Worship - Resolving Conflict
Yesterday’s worship began with some fantastic news! A representative from East Lancs Hospice came in to tell us that our Hop, Skip and Jump event raised £163. Following this, Mrs Wilkinson introduced this week’s Year of Prayer theme: Favourite Places. We spent some time sharing our favourite spaces and then we talked about how God has created so many amazing and healthy spaces for us to enjoy. This led us on to considering the fantastic outdoor spaces we have around school in which we can enjoy time with our friends. We were introduced to our Year 5 peer mediators and Mrs Wilkinson explained how they are going to help us all resolve any fallings out between us and our friends. We are all looking forward to learning to compromise and play together more harmoniously.
Year 4 - Class Worship and Year of Prayer
Year 4's class worship this Wednesday was from Blackburn Dioceses' Worship Together. We heard the well-known story from the Old Testament, David the Giant Killer. We thought about this story in different ways - about trying hard and using critical thinking when tackling a huge problem. We finished our worship with our Year of Prayer for this week, I Spy prayers, in which children hid objects around the room for everyone to try their best to find. We prayed about not giving up and asked for God’s help so that we may persevere.
Reception- Year of Prayer- Playdough
Today as part of our Year of Prayer we thought about situations where people are fighting with each other and countries that are involved in conflict. We made two different colours of playdough to represent two countries and we took a piece of each colour and blended them together to make a new colour. Whilst doing this we prayed to God to bring peace to the situations we had been thinking about to help the two sides come together.
Year 3- Year of Prayer- I Spy-A Lesson in Perseverance
As part of our Year of Prayer, the children took part in a fun hunt around the classroom. Hidden in various places were special items, including a cross, a torch, a heart made of stone, a magnifying glass, and a bottle of sprinkles. The children were excited and eager to find them all, searching enthusiastically until we paused the hunt after 1 minute and 30 seconds. Interestingly, one item, the bottle of sprinkles hidden inside a shoebox, wasn’t found. This led to a discussion about perseverance. The children reflected on the importance of not giving up, even when something feels tricky or takes time. They recognised that determination, effort, and not giving up are key parts of our everyday life. To end the session, the children offered a special prayer, asking God to help them continue to try their best, especially when they feel like giving up.
Year 1- Year of Prayer- Resilience
This week, as part of the Diocesan Year of Prayer, Year 1 reflected on the theme of resilience, praying for God’s strength to help us persevere—even when things feel challenging or we feel like giving up. To bring this theme to life, the children chose 12 classroom items. Miss Flynn then hid these items around the classroom, and the children were tasked with finding them. Some were tucked away in tricky spots, but with determination, teamwork, and a resilient mindset, they rose to the challenge! The activity was great fun, and the children thoroughly enjoyed this week’s focus in our Year of Prayer.
Worship with Rev. Matt
Today in worship with Rev. Matt, the children began with an engaging game involving a mystery box. Selected children had to reach inside and guess the hidden item using only their sense of touch. This fun activity led into a meaningful Bible story about effort, kindness, and being present for others. Rev. Matt shared the story of a woman named Tabitha, also known as Dorcas, who lived in the town of Joppa. Tabitha was known for always doing good and helping those in need — especially widows and the poor. She spent her time sewing clothes for people in her community and showing love through her actions. Sadly, Tabitha became very ill and died. Her friends were heartbroken and sent for Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples. When Peter arrived, he prayed for her — and miraculously, she came back to life! This amazing moment reminded everyone that the good we do for others matters, and that God sees and values our efforts. The story encouraged the children to think about how they can show kindness and be a positive presence in the lives of others, just like Tabitha.
Year 1-Year or Prayer- Knots (Thinking About Our Fears and Worries)
This week, the theme for the Diocesan Year of Prayer, 1 is ‘Knots’. For this, Year 1 had to think about the fears and worries that they experience whilst tying a knot into a ribbon. Year 1 shared worries such as moving into a new classroom with a less familiar teacher, hearing loud noises, our pets or family being poorly, being told off for not making the right choice and coming face to face with scary creatures such as spiders or crocodiles. To symbolise letting go of these worries, Year 1 undid their knot whilst asking God to take away these worries and fears.
Whole School Worship- Your Kingdom Come
During our whole school worship, we continued looking at the special Lord's Prayer that Jesus taught us. We began by imagining what our world might look like if we were in charge for a day. The children shared thoughtful and creative ideas, such as a world filled with kindness, fairness, and care for the environment. This engaging activity led naturally into our focus on the next part of the Lord’s Prayer: “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.” We took time to reflect on what God’s kingdom should look like—a place where love, kindness and peace are present in everything we do. Together, we discussed how we can each play a part in God’s kingdom through our actions and behaving the way He would want. We then turned our attention to the concept of heaven and how it connects to this line of the Lord's prayer. The children were encouraged to share with each other their thoughts on what heaven might be like. Their ideas were rich and varied, painting pictures of a world filled with happiness, joy and light. Jesus tells us through the Lord's prayer that God wants His Kingdom to be like heaven on earth so we reflected on how we could create heaven on earth in our school each day. We had some fantastic answers such as showing kindness, respect and generosity to each other. This worship helped deepen our understanding of the Lord’s Prayer and reminded us all of the role we can play in making our world a better place, starting with small, meaningful actions in our everyday lives.
Year 2 - Year of Prayer
Today, our class worship looked at amazing people around the world doing their best to keep the world a clean place. We discussed different ways we keep the Earth clean and how we can look after our environment! We wrote a prayer asking for help to keep our planet clean and said thank you for everyone who tries their best to make the Kingdom of God a happy and clean place!
Reception- Year of Prayer- Class Worship
During our class worship we had a look at the word map and the children told us places they had visited and we marked it on the map and had a look at how far away it was from our country. The children then shared with us the places they would like to visit. We had a discussion about out favourite things in the world that God created and we then prayed for some of those things. We prayed for the trees, the sea, creatures, the sun and the grass.
Year 1- Year of Prayer- The World
This week as part of the Diocesan Year of Prayer, Year 1 prayed for the world. First of all, we started by singing the seven continents song (which we absolutely love) to remind us of how vast our world is. Year 1 then highlighted places on the world map that they have visited such as London, Turkey, Italy and Belfast and thought about places in the world that they would like to visit such as Brazil to visit the rainforest, the North Pole to see the reindeers and meet Father Christmas, Africa to see the desert animals, Florida to meet the Disney characters, Greece to enjoy the sunshine, beaches, churches and swimming pools and China for the experience. We then finished with some beautiful prayers from Harry, Olly and Olivia who prayed to God to thank Him for the amazing animals that He created for us to love, care for and experience as well as the varied foods that we get to experience from around the world such as Indian foods, Italian foods and beautiful, exotic fruits. We also had a prayer to remind us to care for the world that God created for us all.
