Year 6 Pilgrimage
In year 6, we have been learning about the pilgrimage of Hajj in Islam. The children have learnt about how and why Muslims go on Hajj and been extremely respectful when broaching this subject.
Hello Yellow Day 2021
We have had a brilliant day in school today with all of our children and staff dressing in yellow for Hello Yellow Day. It was topped off with leaving school dancing to the minions ‘happy’ song and being bopped with inflatable bananas by Mrs Ham! Banana #HelloYellow @YoungMindsUK
Why is London the way it is?
In geography, we have been looking at the reasons why London is the way it is today. We have been looking at the physical and human features of geography within London and what we can expect London to be like in the future.
Symbols of electricity
The children have been learning the symbols involved in circuits. They have understood the need for symbols so that everyone can understand the circuit.
Guided reading
During guided reading, we have been using LBQ for retrieval of information. In our independent groups, we have been loving our class novel “Nightfall on the Somme” Whilst sequencing event and answering open ended questions about the text. In the two guided groups, we have been working on deduction and inference using information texts.
Using inverse and multi-step problems
In Year 6, we have been working on multi-step problems to addition and subtraction word problems. Once we completed them, we have been using inverse operations to check them. The children have done amazingly well in grasping what is the important information in the word problems.
Dropping y and adding i to change root words
In year 6, our special spelling focus this week has been dropping y and adding i before adding suffixes to root words. The children have done brilliantly with their team teaching and are really applying their spellings to their independent writes.
Brilliant Barnies beat opposition
Last night, our Year 5 and 6 football team took part in their 2nd set of fixtures in the DPSSA football league. The children were absolutely tremendous and showed all of our school values while representing school. Our first game was against St Pauls Hoddlesdon , we controlled the ball and ended up eventually winning 3-0 after some mind-blowing build up play and gears transitional movement. In the 2nd game of the evening, we took on Turton and Edgeworth. The hard training sessions on a Monday evening paid dividends as our high pressing game forced our opponents in costly mistakes at the back. We were clinical in front of goal and ended up 4-0 winners. Our final fixture of the evening was against a resolute St Edwards side. At the half time interval the scores were tied at 0-0. The pressure was on and the nerves were starting to show but a virtuoso 2nd half performance from Eve lead the way to a comprehensive 5-0 win. From start to finish, the children were a huge credit to our school family and it is extremely pleasing to watch this side develop into a real force. Well done all.
Addition and subtraction using different strategies
Today in Year 6, we have been using a variety of different methods to solve addition and subtraction problems. The children have applied bar models, place value grids and column methods to check their answers.
Visit from Bolton Music Service
Today in Year 5 and 6, we have had a visit from Bolton Music Service to introduce our Upper Key Stage 2 children to the 5 brass instruments they will have the opportunity to learn this year. The children were mesmerised by the music and instruments shown and really represented our school brilliantly.
Superb netball passing development
Today, we have been focusing on our passing skills this week. The children have been absolutely superb and showing our Christian value of respect in helping each other develop these skills.
Year 5 workshop with PC Ros
This morning, year 5 have taken part in a lesson delivered by PC Ros. We talked about reaching the age of criminal responsibility (10 years old). We all had an opportunity to ask lots of questions and listen to real life crimes. We discussed the consequences of such crimes for both the offender and the victim.
