Year 6 - Careers Day
Today, Year 6 celebrated the RotaKids Careers Day, with the children dressing up as the careers they aspire to have in the future. It was fantastic to see such a wide range of ambitions, from athletes and teachers to doctors, engineers, police officers and many more! Throughout the day, the children explored the importance of setting goals, working hard and showing resilience to achieve their dreams. The children discussed the skills, qualities and determination needed for different careers before creating informative and creative posters showcasing their chosen profession and the steps they can take to make their aspirations a reality. It was an inspiring day that encouraged the children to think positively about their futures and reminded them that, with dedication and perseverance, they can achieve great things.
RotaKids Careers Day Whole School Worship
Today our Whole School Worship was a little bit different as it was our RotaKids Careers Dress Up Day. All of the children and staff were dressed in their own clothes, showing what they want to be when they grow up. Mrs Ham started by asking the teachers to parade in their outfits. We had an astronaut, a singer, a doctor, a vet, a paddle coach and a baker. The children followed on and each class showed off their outfits too and there was such a range of career choices with lots of vets, hairdresser and footballers. After the parade, Mrs Ham selected the most unusual outfits and asked the children to guess what the children would like to be when they grow up. We had everything from DJ Jenson to King Jonas. It was a super Worship and we hope that today helps to broadens the children’s horizons, sparks curiosity, and helps them to link their skills to future opportunities.
Future Leaders: Year 3 Take on Careers Day
Today was the whole-school Careers Day led by our RotaKids, and our Year 3 classroom was absolutely buzzing with inspiration! The children looked fantastic dressed up as their future selves, either stepping into their parents' roles or showcasing their own big dreams for when they grow up. It was wonderful to see just how much ambition our Year 3s showed during this school event. The future looks incredibly bright with such a talented group, including doctors, nurses, vets, teachers, hairdressers, actors, pilots, basketball players, architects, and engineers. We are so proud of our Year 3 students for dreaming big and aiming high.
Careers Day in Year 4
Today we took part in ‘Careers Day’ and Year 4 put every effort into dressing up in their best outfits. We had everything from artists to acrobats. As part of our day, we discussed how lucky we are to have so many career options available to us and how important our education is in relation to this. What a super day we have all had!
Year 5 - RotaKids
Year 5 have been putting the finishing touches to our final project with Darwen Rotary Club. On Friday 3rd of July, we want everyone to come to school dressed up as the job they want to have when they grow up. Alternatively children can come dressed in the jobs their parents or guardians have. It’s a great chance to dress up, have fun and think about our hopes and dreams for the future. There is a fee of £1 (paid through parent pay) and all proceeds will go towards supporting the school.
Year 5 RotaKids Conference
On Friday, six pupils from Year 5 attended the annual RotaKids Conference at the University of Cumbria. They had the opportunity to take part in a variety of different fascinating activities, such as: learning how to keep our bodies healthy, extracting DNA from a strawberry and making poo; learning all about the life cycle of hornets and tasting local honey straight from the hive; learning about water safety from the Fire and Rescue Service; getting the chance to look inside a fire engine and even having a go with the powerful water hose! The children had a fantastic day and demonstrated excellent behaviour, with the staff commenting on how polite our pupils were.
Year 5 - RotaKids
Julia and Kathleen from Darwen Rotary Club came to visit today to discuss our next charity project for RotaKids. Having supported local and global charities through our previous efforts, we decided this time to support our school. We discussed various fundraising ideas before deciding on two potential favourites: wearing historical dress or dressing as you would in your future career. Now the RotaKids council have to convince Mrs Ham that we have the organisation and passion to get the whole school onside and raise as much as we can for St Barnabas.
Year 5 - Rotakids
Darwen Rotary club will be staging an Easter egg hunt during the Easter weekend. Eggs decorated by a number of schools will be hidden around Darwen, including popular walking routes and the town centre. 20 eggs will have a golden heart on the back and you can exchange one for an Easter egg at By Erin Gift shop.
Year 5 - Rotakids
This week marks the end of our most recent charity project in association with Darwen Rotary Club. We collected over 60 teddies and plushes from the ever-generous children and families of St Barnabas. Some will be heading abroad to children in war zones with the Teddy Trust, while others will support more local families. Thank you to everyone who contributed and well done to Year 5, whose enthusiasm, posters, comic books and passionate speeches made it all possible.
Year 5 -Rotakids
Today, Julia from Darwen Rotary Club visited the class to discuss our next project. We have decided to collect Teddy Bears to give to children around the world who do not have their own. We have made posters and comic strips to promote the endeavour and we will be asking everyone in the school to donate a Teddy Bear in good condition that they would be willing to part with.
Year 5 - RotaKids
Darwen Rotary Club visited us again to inspire us for our next project in the new year. We talked about how our shoebox collections helped refugees in Darwen and further ideas on how to support our school and international communities. The children were inspired by the principles and ideals of the Rotary Club and are already full of ideas for the future. We also received badges and certificates confirming our role as RotaKids.
Rotakids Harvest Collection
A huge thank you from our RotaKids to everyone who has donated shoe boxes filled with toiletries and warm clothing for DARE - Darwen Asylum and Refugee Enterprise over the last few weeks. They are still collecting warm coats, hats and scarfs for Darwen Rotary to help those who are homeless or are in need. Perhaps you could sort through any old coats during the holidays. Thanks for your generosity!
