Reception- Jesus walks on water
Mrs Ham had the pleasure of teaching Reception class RE this week. The children learnt about why Christians believe that Jesus is so special. They had great fun acting out the miracle of Jesus walking on water using different props. They showed Mrs Ham their best shocked faces when showing her how they thought Jesus’ friends, the disciples, would feel when they saw Jesus walking on water. Some children said that they might have thought he was a ghost, that he was magical and that he was the Son of God. They also suggested using instruments and their voices for the storm. Well done Reception class!
Year 1- Remembrance walk
On Friday afternoon we visited Whitehall park and Darwen cemetery to pay our respects for Remembrance Day. We are so proud of year 1 for showing lots of respect!
Remembrance Day Worship
Lest We Forget - In Worship this morning we remembered all of the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for us. We had a two minute silence to pay our respects with our school family and our Year 6 class shared their Remembrance Day Artwork. We then moved onto Celebration Worship where our ‘Value Points Winners’ were awarded with their certificates. Well done to all of our children this week!
Reception- Feeding the 5000
In RE Reception have been looking at the story “feeding the 5000”. We also talked about why Jesus is so special and what makes him special.
Year 5 R.E- Visit from Reverend Adam
This afternoon, we had a visit from Reverend Adam from 'The United Reformed Church'. He came to talk to the class about the Bible. He answered lots of questions which the children had prepared. The children were also given the opportunity to explore different types of Bibles. We looked at 'The Police' Bible which had a section titled 'HELP'. This section directs you to passages that might help you if you're feeling lonely, if you're feeling afraid or if you just simply want to pray for someone you love. The children were also introduced to a song which might help to remember the books of the Bible. Reverend Adam also read his favourite story from the Bible, 'The Lost Sheep and Coin'.
Year 2 - RE - Judaism
The children investigated a variety of Jewish artifacts, explored the Jewish culture and began to compare their growing knowledge to other faiths and religions.
Year 4 - Linking Schools
This week, we have kicked off our Linking Schools project in Year 4, learning a little bit about our link school, St Matthew’s in Blackburn, and creating bunting about ourselves and what we enjoy.
Whole school Harvest service in Church
This morning our WOW group, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children led our Harvest service in church. Our wonderful choir led the singing during the service. We gave thanks to the farmers and our WOW group reminded everybody about the charities that we are supporting, The Mother’s Union in Burundi and DARE (Darwen Asylum and Refugee Enterprise). The children made us all very proud. A huge thank you to all of the parents, carers and family members that attended too, it was lovely to see you all.
Year 4 - RE: Is it ever right to challenge authority?
Year 4 debated whether it was right to challenge authority. They then carried out research about people who have famously challenged authority to make a change in the world. We have learned a lot from the efforts of Rosa Parks, William Wilberforce, Greta Thunberg and Oscar Romero.
Year 1-Harvest.
In R.E we have been talking about harvest around the world. Wow what an amazing variety of food God has provided us. We tasted a few different fruits but also different varieties of the same fruit. We tasted red and green apples and discussed if they tasted and smelt the same.
Year 2 - Local History Walk
In our history lessons we have been focusing on local history and the cotton industry. At this point in history, we have looked at why Gandhi visited Darwen. We have begun to explore the reasoning behind his visit- to allow India to become independent and free to make and sell their own cotton. As this was his mission, we went on a walk and explored where the Greenfield Mill used to be (where Gandhi visited) and the house in which he stayed in.
Year 2 - Exploring similarities and differences between two different faiths.
Year 2 explored the similarities and differences between Christianity and Islam. We were able to come up with lots of similarities between both faiths and learned how other religious people live their lives according to what they believe in.
