Year 4 - RE: People Challenging Authority

In RE this week we were learning about people who have famously spoken out against their authority figures in order to affect change in the world. The children worked in groups to research Rosa Parks, William Wilberforce, Oscar Romero or Greta Thunberg. They considered why these important people felt they had to speak up and how their acts of courage brought about important changes.

Reception: Learning about Islam

This week our Ducklings learnt all about Islamic prayer beads. They are what Muslims use to pray to God. They are called ‘Subha’. We had a look at a variety of prayer beads and learnt that there are 99 beads which represent a name that is given to God. Some of the names include the kind, the light, the strong, the first, the guide and the loving. Thank you to Miss Kachwalla for bringing her prayer beads in.

Year 1-Making a Sukkah

Year 1 have been learning about the Jewish Festival of Sukkot. In the creative and construction areas they have been building a sukkah. They have learnt that some Jews celebrate harvest by building a sukkah and spending time in there during their harvest festival (Sukkot). For example, they might enjoy a meal to give thanks or to say a prayer of thankfulness. They do this to remember all of the Jews that had to sleep in the wilderness as they fled from slavery and to give thanks for many things such as food and shelter.

In our Class Worship session this morning, our WOW group members Luca, Annabelle and Grace used Picture News to lead the session. We focused on ‘Record Breakers’ and is it correct that anyone can break a world record? We learnt that over 30,000 applicants submit their achievements each year but only 2,638 were selected to be published in the Guinness World Records 2024 . We prayed for the ability to show perseverance and determination along with all of the special people involved in trying to break records.

Reception: RE God’s Plan

This week in RE, our Ducklings were thinking about God’s plan for us. We had a special visitor, baby Rupert who came so that we could compare how we grow. We decided Rupert wasn’t ready for school just yet. “He can’t walk” said Bella, “He can’t ride a scooter” said Haydn. Hollie said that he could only play with baby toys. We then thought about God’s plan for us as we grow up. We discussed what we wanted to be when we grow up. Percy said a rock and roll star, Thomas said a builder, Harry said a farmer and Elsie said a nurse.

Year 5 - What is the Bible?

This week Year 5 have been looking at what the bible is and where it came from. We sought to answer these following questions to gain a deep and detailed understanding of what the Bible is: Where does the bible come from? What’s in the Jewish bible? What’s in the story of the Old Testament? How did Jesus carry the bible forward? The children discussed that the Bible started in the Old Testament through ancient Jewish scriptures that were masters in literature and answered life’s many unknown questions. We learned and understood that the Jewish Bible referred to as the Tanak referred to all the early workings of the Bible and how the carried and spread Gods word. Then we discussed the varied ways that Jesus carried the story forward to inspire the masses to follow in the footsteps of Christianity. We understood the first person accounts that were written and when Jesus began to carry this story forward we enter the New Testament of the Bible.
