Westholme Netball Tournament
This afternoon we took part in the annual Year 4/5 Netball Tournament which was hosted by Westholme School. Team B played eight games and came away with six wins, one draw and one loss. The final league standings were announced and we were awarded with bronze. Every single child played brilliantly, showed respect and encouraged each other every step of the way. We are so proud of them!
Year 3- P.E- Developing the Rugby Swing Pass
Today, Year 3 developed their teamwork and technical skills during an Invasion Games lesson focused on Rugby. The children practised the swing pass, focusing on forming a 'W' shape with their hands and swinging the ball from chest to hip height toward their target. They participated in a "Pepper Pot" drill to improve their passing accuracy and speed, working hard to beat their personal bests in a 30-second challenge. A key focus of the lesson was honesty, as groups were responsible for reporting their actual number of successful passes. The children also explored tactics to outwit a defender, such as feinting a pass and moving into open space to receive the ball. To finish, they applied these skills in a 4v1 game, where attackers had to use quick thinking and precise passing to keep the ball away from the defender.
Year 1 PE: Athletics
In our new PE topic, we are focusing on skills that we need in Athletics. We started by focusing on our posture, marching to Grand Old Duke of York whilst balancing a beanbag on our head. Then, we focused on following a leader in partners. In groups, we worked in stations. One station allowed us to practise our posture whilst balancing a beanbag on our head whilst moving between two hoops. The second station allowed us to practise rolling a quoit from one cone to another. The third station allowed us to practise both hopscotch and following a leader.
Reception: Muddy Monday
What a wonderful "Muddy Monday" for our Reception class! The children had a fantastic time exploring the outdoors at Jacks Key Reservoir, keeping their eyes peeled and ears open for the first signs of Spring. It didn't take long for our mini-explorers to spot vibrant yellow daffodils peeking through the grass and delicate blossoms beginning to bloom on the trees. Looking up, we were treated to a beautiful blue sky filled with fluffy white clouds, while the air was alive with the cheerful sound of birds tweeting. To top off our adventure, we even spotted some butterflies fluttering by, confirming that Spring is truly on its way. We are so blessed to have this right on our doorstep!
Year 2 - PE - Dance
Year 2 have been investigating different movements and have created sequences in paired work.
Year 4 - PE: Athletics
Our first athletics session in Year 4 was all about demonstrating our throwing and sprinting skills. The children learned about positioning, leg work and arm movement to improve how fast they could sprint and how far they could throw overarm to a target. They then applied these skills through a series of fun team games.
Year 6 - Football
This week in PE, our Year 6 pupils continued developing their football skills. The children focused on a range of key aspects of the game through a series of engaging activities. They took part in zone ball to develop accurate passing and teamwork, developed their shooting by aiming to hit a ball placed on a cone and improved their control by dribbling through gates. Throughout the session, the children demonstrated great determination, coordination and sportsmanship, while building their confidence with the ball at their feet. It was fantastic to see their skills progressing and their enthusiasm for the game shining through.
Reception: Muddy Monday
What a fantastic afternoon we had at Whitehall Park today! We were blown away by the children's bravery and determination as they explored the great outdoors. Many of our little explorers challenged themselves to reach new heights, showing incredible physical strength and focus as they climbed trees much higher than they ever have before! It was wonderful to see their confidence grow with every branch they conquered. Whether they were finding the perfect foothold or cheering on their friends from below, the teamwork and grit on display were truly inspiring.
Reception - Hop, Skip & Jump
Reception thoroughly enjoyed taking part in our yearly ‘Hop, skip & jump’ around our school 1k track to raise money for East Lancashire Hospice. The children wore their Easter crowns with pride and moved around our school track by hopping, skipping or jumping. What a brilliant effort by all.
Year 1 PE: Sequencing
In their final gymnastics session, Year 1 had to put some sequences together. It incorporated all the skills they have been learning. Some of them looked like real gymnasts.
Year 4 - PE: Orienteering
In our final orienteering session, the Year 4s were ready to explore further afield. Until this point, the children had been perfecting their map reading skills, understanding the importance of finding magnetic north and locating the start point. This session was an opportunity for the children to fine tune their teamwork skills - taking time to read the map and make group decisions about which direction to go in. The groups were given a medium route map which took them on to the furthest reaches of the top field. It was certainly an energetic session. The teams raced to each point in order to be the first team to finish, but the most successful teams were those who fulfilled their roles and talked about the locations before setting off running.
The Anderton Centre - Paddle Boarding
So we woke up to completely different weather this morning! The sun was beaming and after we had a delicious full English breakfast we descended on the lake to take part in XL paddle boarding. The children paddled for miles, played games and even managed ‘ Body Part Bingo’. We had a few slip ups and a few of the children ended up in the water. What a great way to finish our residential to The Anderton Centre. Big thanks to Mrs Araujo, Mrs Gardner and Mrs Singleton for their support and also to the parents, carers and children .
