Year 2 - Gymnastics
In gymnastics, year 2 are beginning to put all of the skills and movements they have learnt over the past weeks into a routine. Skills such as forward rolls, balances and tuck jumps. The children have been trying really to remember their sequences and have a go at all of the skills even if they are difficult. In our next lessons, the children will choose their own skills and moments to create their own unique routines.
Year 6 Gymnastics
In P.E, year 6 having been working in pairs or small groups to create routines with a range of counter-balances. They had to work co-operatively and use core strength. Their routines are looking amazing!
Year 3- P.E- Gymnastics-Demonstrate balances on 2 and 3 points of the body.
Year 3 began their gymnastics unit this afternoon focused on balance and movement. To start, they practised balancing on one leg, extending the other leg backwards with a pointed foot, and then switching sides. We discussed the quality of a good balance, emphasising the importance of stillness. Next, the children explored balancing on four points (two hands and two feet) and discussed whether it felt easier and why. They then experimented with balancing on smaller body parts, trying positions with 1, 2, 3, or 4 points of contact. It was a fantastic start to the gymnastics unit, with plenty of creativity, teamwork, and fun.
Year 6 - P.E.
This week, Year 6 started their netball unit focusing on chest and bounce passes. They started by working in pairs and critiquing their own performance before applying techniques into a 4v1 game situation. Some fantastic skill was on display.
DPSSA Football
Today, our school football team represented the school brilliantly in their league fixture. Drawing against Ashleigh in the first game and then beating St James’ comfortably in the second. An excellent performance from the boys. Well done!
Year 4 Gymnastics - Matching Sequence
In our gymnastics lesson this week we focused on matching balances, moving towards a sequence. The children first matched with a partner and then completed a sequence of gymnastic actions. The Problem Solving element was to come up with different ideas to create a variety of matched balances.
Year 6 - P.E. - Gymnastics
In gymnastics, year 6 have been working hard on completing their own sequences. They have been applying jumps, rolls, travels and balances whilst also thinking about different levels they can incorporate into their sequence. It has been really impressive to see the class take constructive criticism on board, endeavouring to improve their performance and being a supportive audience when their peers are performing.
Year 6 - Axe Throwing and Archery
At the end of last week, year 6 had the opportunity to take part in some alternative sports: Axe Throwing and Archery. They had a fantastic time taking part and listened attentively to the instructions they were given in order to improve their performance.
Year 1 PE- Street Dance
Year 1 enjoyed this second session of street dance this afternoon. They started with a warm up where they had to create a movement for a given animal such as stretching tall like a giraffe, pulling themselves across the floor like a snake and jumping like a monkey. Then Year 1 recapped some of the dance movements that they learnt last lesson such as ‘The Smurf’ and ‘The ATL (kick, kick, jump)’ before learning a new movement called ‘The Bart Simpson.’ Finally, they practised these movements as part of a routine before performing it in groups.
Year 4 - PE: Acro
The Year 4 children are so lucky to be receiving specialist dance coaching again this half term. This time they will be learning Acro skills. Their first session saw them demonstrate their abilities to perform forward roles, handstands and cartwheels. The coaches taught the children about correct hand placement and body positioning for optimal results. Every pupil had already improved in at least one area by the end of the session.
