European Day of Languages 2024 - Harvest Songs
Today, in singing worship, the children were introduced to some Harvest-themed songs in different European languages. This was in celebration of European Day of Languages, which will take place on Thursday. We have set the children a challenge to learn part or all of one of these songs. They can do this for next week. We are not expecting them to know it by Thursday. Reception Junior Jam
Today Reception class were lucky enough to have Junior Jam sessions this afternoon. They took part in music, learning about melodies, French, where they recapped their numbers and colours through songs and also computing, where they could use an iPad and work with a partner to complete challenges. Super sitting, listening and joining in in Reception, Well done!
Year 4 - French: Ou Puis-Je Acheter…?
Year 4 French this week was a progression on the children’s learning of shop names. They learned the French names for some common items we buy and how to say where to buy them from. C’était formidable!
Year 4 - French
In French, the Year 4s are learning about clothing and how to say and describe what they wear. The children enjoyed joining in with the song, before writing some French phrases to describe different articles of clothing.
European Day of Languages
On Tuesday, we celebrated European Day of Languages in our worship with a reading of the Very Hungry Caterpillar in French. We learned some Of the French words for fruits in the story and ended with a reflection about things for which we are thankful.
Year 5 French - Names of Food and Drink
Today in French we have carried on learning the names of food and drink. The children were able to sort all the items into the correct categories.
Year 1- Fruits in French
Year 1 are impressing me on a Wednesday afternoon with their amazing french lessons with Mrs Hayat! We’ve learnt colour names, animal names and now we are learning the names of fruit in french.
Christmas Service at St Barnabas Church, Lead by KS2
This morning, the whole school came together for our Christmas Service at St Barnabas Church, lead by KS2. Over this term, KS2 classes have been preparing short presentations for the service, about an element of Christmas that they have been focusing on in R.E. In Year 3, the class presented pieces of artwork, focusing on the shepherd's visiting Jesus in the stable and being in the presence of God. Year 4 looked at Christingle's and created a fantastic rap, about the meaning of the Christingle and Jesus being the light of the World. Year 5 spoke about how different countries celebrate Christmas around the World. Finally, Year 6 spoke about Advent and what it means to them. Some children also shared their hopes and dreams for the future. The WOW Group also helped to lead parts of the service and we sang a selection of Christmas Carols as a whole school. Overall, we really enjoyed learning about different elements of Christmas and KS2 presented their learning brilliantly!

Year 3 French
Today in French, Year 3 have been learning to ask and answer the question ‘how old are you?’. They also sang ‘happy birthday’ in French as we had a birthday in class. Well done Year 3!

This week, Year 5 have been matching numbers 0-20 in french.

Year 1 have been trying really hard in french this week. They have learnt numbers 1-6 in french.
Year 4 French - Comment Ça Va?
In French, Year 4 were learning how to ask someone how they are and how to respond. I wonder which phrase they liked saying the most.
Year 3 French - The Hungry Caterpillar
In French, Year 3 have been listening to the story of “The Hungry Caterpillar”. They have used their knowledge of French words for snacks, animals and days of the week to understand the story.
Year 4 - Discussing Mealtimes in French
This week in French, we have been learning how to say what we have for dinner at school. We discussed what time we eat lunch and whether we have a packed lunch, une panier repas, or a school dinner, la nourriture du collège.
Qu’est- ce-que-tu Manges?- French- Year 5
In today's French lesson, the children were learning about the different items of food that they eat for dinner. They then used their french knowledge and wrote sentences in french about what they had for lunch. For example, J'apporte un sandwich, une pomme et un jus dans ma boîte à lunch.
Year 6 French
Today Year 6 have worked hard in French, focusing on foods which people like and dislike. They also applied previous learning on link words within sentences.
Year 3 - French sentence writing
In French, Year 3 have been using prior learning of numbers, colours and fruit for writing in sentences. For example - Il y a six pommes vertes. ( There are six green apples.)
Year 4 - Les Opinions
This week, Year 4 discussed which foods we like and dislike in our French lesson. They were all fantastique!

Year 3 have been learning the names of six different fruits in French. They have written sentences in French naming each fruit and its colour.

This afternoon, Year 5 have been identifying different types of music, football teams, T.V shows and artists and giving their opinions on what they like and dislike in French, with Miss Woodcock.
Year 4 Talking Food - in French
Year 4 have been writing about their breakfast this week in French. They have been describing what they eat and drink. They also translated a whole French passage in order to answer comprehension questions!
French Reading - Year 5
This afternoon, Year 5 have been reading and answering questions in French, with Miss Woodcock. Miss Woodcock was really impressed with how far they have come and how much they have remembered.
Year 3 French - Pets Game
Year 3 have been practising their knowledge of French words for pets by playing a matching game.
Year 3 French - Animals
Year 3 have welcomed back Miss Woodcock for French. She is continuing our work on animals and will be recapping on colours that we learnt in her absence.

In french this week, we have been learning the nouns for parts of the face and body.

We had great fun playing Guess Who in French this week. The children described one of the characters in French and their partners had to guess which one they were describing. Their pronunciation? C’est formidable!

WOW Worship- European Day of Languages
Our Worship Our Way (WOW) group planned and led our Worship today about European Day of Languages. We celebrated diversity & the gift of language that God has given to us. We also learnt lots of ways to say hello & greet each other in different languages.
Fabulous French
We are so excited to have Mademoiselle Woodcock, who is a French teacher from DACA, teaching French to KS2 classes every Tuesday this term. Our KS2 class teachers have found it so useful to observe how to teach French more effectively and the children have loved the lessons. Mademoiselle Woodcock has been really impressed with what the children have learnt so far in French over the years. Tres bien Years 3,4,5 and 6!
