Reception- Trekking Tuesday- Remembrance

Today we had our Trekking Tuesday forest school session and for the first part of the session we were thinking all about Remembrance Day and we created some lovely natural poppies. We then went on to have some free choice and exploration on this very muddy Tuesday. The children loved jumping in the muddy puddles, creating with sticks and hiding in natural dens.

Reception- PSHE- Anti-Bullying Week

Today we learnt all about anti-bullying and why we are wearing odd socks. We had a discussion about what bullying is. The children came up with some great ideas, stating that bullying is when someone is unkind to someone else again and again, hurting people, calling them names or pulling their hair. We spoke about bullying not just being actions but also words that aren’t very kind.

Wellbeing Warriors Wow Challenge - October

In our Wellbeing Warriors meeting today, the children identified who had done enough walks or park and strides and to gain their October badges. We are thrilled to see that so many children are trying so hard to make their journey to school a healthier one. The girls went through each class highlighting names and then collecting the right amount of badges which they will give out in Worship tomorrow. Another great achievement is that St Barnabas have managed to come third place in the Blackburn with Darwen Top Ten Leader Board for Autumn 2025 which shows that our engagement rate is outstanding!

Year 3- Hello Yellow Day for World Mental Health

Today, we held a fantastic "Hello Yellow Day" to observe World Mental Health Day, raising awareness by having everyone come to school in non-uniform, wearing something bright yellow. As part of our activities, we watched an inspiring short video that highlighted the power of drawing and sketching as tools for children to express their emotions and build mental wellbeing, featuring insights from actor Tony Hale (from Inside Out 2) and Consultant Clinical Psychologist David Trickey, with the goal of inspiring our students to grow in confidence, kindness, and self-awareness.

This week, Year 6 had a visit from the Obesity Blurb project, who spoke with the children about healthy life and eating choices. The children looked at how food is marketed to us and can influence our choices, and also how food and our levels of physical activity can affect our physical and mental health.
