Year 1 DT Super Structures Part 1
This week in our design and technology lessons we have been looking at different 3D shapes and seeing which shape is the strongest. The children have enjoyed testing the shapes and finding out that the cylinder was the strongest shape because it has no corners. We then started a super structure in teams using card and masking tape.
Forest Schools in Reception
We saw lots of teamwork during our forest schools session today. The children enjoyed collecting resources to build bug houses and log fires. They also enjoyed creating dens and climbing trees!
Year 2 - Bar Charts
During our statistics unit, Year 2 have been focusing on a variety of ways to display and represent findings. We have looked at tally charts, pictograms and now we have been focusing on bar charts. The children worked really hard to display their findings in a presentable way.
Year 1 DT Exploring Stability
Year 1 used playdough, card and rulers to measure the stability of different 3D shapes in partners during their DT lesson today. They looked at spheres, cubes, pyramids and cuboids and tried to measure the height at which these objects would roll down a piece of card. We compared the results in class and they were then set a challenge to create a small standing structure using the playdough and the knowledge of the 3D shapes they had investigated.
Year 1 Science Investigating Smells
Year 1 have been learning about the different human senses in science and this week we were focussing on smell and describing what different items smelt like. The children really enjoyed investigating what nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, lemon, coffee and some other different dried herbs smelt like. They recorded the information from our investigation in a table using adjectives to describe the different smells.
Year 1 Maths Using Tens and Ones to Make Numbers to 100
Year 1 have been making different 2 digit numbers up to 100 using dienes to help them identify how many tens and ones there are within the numbers. They have worked in pairs to create numbers and then made their own numbers so they can compare them too. Tomorrow they will look at one more and one less than any number up to 100.
Reception - Maths - Sharing
This week, reception have looked at how to fairly share objects in maths. The children had to decide how to equally share out gummy bears. They used their problem solving skills to share out odd amounts and came up with some fantastic ideas about how we can share them out. Of course, their favourite part was eating them afterwards!
Reception - Maths - Exploring numbers to 30
This week we have been looking at numbers to 30. We started by discussing everything we know about 30 and the children had some fantastic ideas about how we can make 30. We then played a game using 30 counters. The children had to roll the dice and take the counters away, the person to take the last counter won! The children practised their subitising skills to look at how many counters were left, and their reasoning skills to decide what they would like to roll next!
Year 2 - Position and Direction
In maths, year 2 have been looking at describing the position and direction of objects. During the lesson the children were focusing mainly on describing how an object has moved. They used to the terms clockwise and anti clockwise and described how much the object has turned and it what direction.
Year 1 Maths Position and Direction: Turns
Year 1 have been learning about positions and directions this week in their maths lessons. On Tuesday they practised full turns, quarter turns, half turns and three quarter turns outside. The children then looked at turning different shapes using these different turns in their maths books.
Using analogue and digital time in Year 4
In maths this morning, we have been looking at both analogue and digital times. We then moved on to converting time using the 24 hour clock. We found it quite challenging but learnt a new trick to convert time quickly.
Reception - Maths - Exploring numbers to 20
This week in Maths we have been learning about numbers to 20. We have practised counting, writing numerals and making the numbers using numicon.
