Year 3- Online Safety- Live Streaming
Year 3 discussed this week's poster about live streaming. Many children were aware of the dangers but were unsure how to block unwanted users. Some mentioned that they ignore or ask who someone is when they join. We also talked about the importance of speaking to a trusted adult, only playing age-appropriate games, and following the guidance of grown-ups when it comes to online safety.
Year 3- English- Using Adverbs to Bring The Iron Man to Life
In English, our young writers have started writing the opening for our class narrative based on The Iron Man! The children have been busy creating their powerful adverbs to bring their writing to life. From silently towering over the cliffs to mysteriously appearing in the darkness, they’ve been working hard to make their openings gripping. We’ve had giant hands cautiously reaching out, and eerie eyes glowingly piercing through the night.
Year 3- R.E- Exploring Sadness and Joy of Easter
In R.E, Year 3 learned about the events of Palm Sunday. They watched a short film showing Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem and discussed the different emotions of the people in the story. The crowd was excited and joyful, waving palm branches and shouting "Hosanna!" because they believed Jesus was their King. The disciples felt proud and amazed as they walked beside Jesus and saw how much people loved Him. Jesus himself was calm but thoughtful, knowing what was to come. However, the Pharisees were angry and worried because they didn’t like how many people followed Jesus. The children learnt that Easter Sunday is both joyful and sad because it brings together the emotions of Good Friday and the Resurrection of Jesus.
Year 3- Class Worship- Popularity & Online Safety
In our class meeting, organised by our Smart School Councillors, we reviewed last week’s vote. The majority of children shared that they feel safe online only sometimes, emphasizing the importance of parental supervision. This week’s meeting was led by James, with Lottie taking notes. The class explored the question: Is being popular important? At first, many reacted with surprise, but after thoughtful group discussions, one out of five groups believed popularity was important, considering it ‘cool’ to be recognized and looked up to. However, the majority felt that popularity wasn’t necessary. They highlighted that true friendships matter more than status and that being yourself is far more valuable than trying to fit in.
Year 3- Year of Prayer-Thanking God for his love for us
This week for Year of Prayer, Year 3 went to the peace garden. They imagined the ground was lava and only 'love hearts' were safe to touch. Hopping between these hearts, they thanked God for his love, exemplified by the beauty of creation surrounding them the flowers, the gentle breeze, and the warmth of the sun all testaments to His care. They also acknowledged His love in providing them with family, friends, and the gift of each new day, a constant reminder of His presence.
Year 3- Food Technology-Developing Cutting and Peeling Skills
Over two lessons, Year 3 chefs have been building their confidence in essential food preparation skills. They worked in a carousel-style rotation, moving between different stations to practice a range of techniques. At one table, they focused on chopping, while another group worked on peeling. A third table group practised the skill of grating, allowing them to explore different textures and refine their fine motor skills. Using their developed skills, the children designed their puff pastry tarts, selecting from a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables. They also explored the nutritional benefits of different colours in food and discussed how their ingredient choices contribute to a balanced diet. In the next lesson, they will evaluate their creations, reflecting on taste, texture, presentation, and the overall success of their recipes.
Year of Prayer and Singing Worship
This morning in our Collective Worship we took part in the year of prayer for this week, which was a prayer about emotions. We discussed with our partner all the different emoji emotions we could see and then named them. We then prayed together for people that we might know in our school or family that might be feeling some of those different emotions at the minute or those who might not be feeling very well. We then had different classes leading the singing and actions for our favourite Easter hymns and songs. What a joyous and uplifting start to the week!
Mad Science After School Club- Slime Time-The Science Behind the Goo!
Today, our young scientists had an exciting, hands-on adventure in the world of Mad Science Slime! The children explored the science of polymers while creating their own colourful, stretchy, and squishy slime. Each child chose their favourite colour, mixing and experimenting like real chemists to bring their slimy creations to life. The children put their slime to the test in our Mad Science Slime Olympics, stretching, bouncing, and squishing their creations to see whose slime was the stretchiest, stickiest, and most creative.
Friday Celebration Worship
Today, we started our celebration worship by signing the trinity and reflecting on another amazing week in school. This week, we have had fabulous week celebrating British Science Week. Thank you to Miss Kachwalla and our science ambassadors for all of the effort they have put into organising all of the exciting investigations they have planned and delivered. We also said a huge thank you to everyone for supporting ‘THE BIG LENT WALK.’ So far, we have now hit an amazing 325km and raised £89. Thank you for helping us to make a difference to the lives of those who aren’t as fortunate as us. Please continue to let either Mrs Wilkinson or Mrs Ham know if you have walked anywhere and send photos if you can. This week, we have also started some amazing work in our classes and enjoyed a collective worship about Easter, enjoyed a great variety of after school clubs such as Craft Club led by Fred and Pearl, Cross Country, Mad Science, Choir, Performing Arts and Gymnastics clubs led by Edstart and our amazing choir sang at the ‘Let’s Go Sing’ concert in Blackpool. A huge thank you to Mrs Govan for leading the choir, Mrs Wilkinson for supporting the event and our fabulous choir for singing their hearts out and representing our school wonderfully well. To end our worship, Mrs Ham reminded us that next Friday 21st is ‘Rock Your Socks’ for World Down Syndrome Day. Then, we had a performance from our fantastic choir singing ‘Roar.’ We wish you all a lovely and restful weekend.
Let's Go Sing 2025 at Blackpool Winter Gardens
A huge well done to our choir for their fabulous performance at the Let's Go Sing concert at Blackpool Winter Gardens. You certainly danced Jagger and sang like Abba! Thank you so much to Mrs Govan for her commitment to our choir throughout the year and to Mrs Wilkinson for her support. Thank you to our parents and carers who helped with transport and for your support at the concert.
Year 3 - Geography
Today in Year 3, we explored lines of latitude and longitude and how they help us locate places on a map or globe. The children learned that latitude lines run horizontally, measuring how far a place is north or south of the equator, while longitude lines run vertically, measuring how far a place is east or west of the Prime Meridian. Thanks Mr Bloomfield, our Geography subject leader, for a brilliant lesson!
Worship with Rev. Matt
Today’s worship with Rev. Matt began with a test of strength. Mr. Bloomfield was challenged to rip three different objects: a piece of paper, a piece of cardboard and a curtain. While the paper and cardboard tore easily, the curtain was more challenging, highlighting its strength and resilience. This demonstration led seamlessly into the powerful moment in the Bible when the great curtain in the temple—the barrier that symbolised separation from God—was torn in two at the moment of Jesus’ crucifixion. Rev. Matt then read the Bible passage describing Jesus’ sacrifice, explaining that when the curtain was torn, it was a sign of God’s deep sorrow but also a powerful symbol that, through Jesus, we are no longer separated from Him. The children reflected on the significance of this moment and how Jesus’ sacrifice allows us to live in a close relationship with God. Following this, the children considered how they could respond by living life in all its fullness. They shared ideas on how to show kindness, forgiveness and love in their daily lives, just as Jesus taught. They discussed ways to help others, make positive choices and appreciate the blessings around them. The worship ended with a moment of reflection, encouraging the children to think about how they can bring goodness into the world, strengthening their connection with God and those around them.
