Year 1 have been trying really hard to understand the greater than and less than symbols. We use these in Maths as it is much quicker than writing the words. We read a story called Gavin the Gator which helped us to understand that the crocodile always wants to eat the bigger number. When we have the bigger number first, we use the greater than symbol. When the smaller number is first, we use the less than symbol. Year 1 arranged different objects and had to decide which symbol was the correct one to use.
