Today, Year 6 focused on calculating the area of triangles. They began by carefully measuring the base and perpendicular height of different triangles using rulers, ensuring accuracy in their measurements. The children then constructed and labelled their own triangles, identifying the base, vertical height (altitude), and vertices.
They applied the area formula:
Area = base × height ÷ 2
We discussed why the formula works, linking it to finding the area of a rectangle and understanding that a triangle is half of a rectangle with the same base and height.
