Whole School Celebration Worship
In our Celebration Worship this morning we commemorated Year 6's trip to London, as well as the wonderful achievements of our pupils across all year groups. The class teachers gave out awards to pupils who have demonstrated our Christian values such as kindness, respect, and courage. We recognised the hard work and dedication of pupils who have excelled in various extracurricular activities, including our recent swimming gala and the Year 4 children for being brave and showing courage at Junction 4 skatepark. We also awarded the amazing attendance award to our Year 1 and Year 3 pupils, who have shown a commitment to their education and a passion for learning. Congratulations to the yellow team (Darwen Tower) for gaining a total of 317 points. This is a great achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. Well done and keep up the good work! We are incredibly proud of all our pupils and their accomplishments, and we know that they will continue to achieve great things. We want to thank Rev Ben for leading us in prayer and for reminding us of the importance of faith and community in our daily lives. To celebrate our students' achievements, we sang "Shine from the inside out," a fitting tribute to the incredible talents and hard work of our pupils.
Year 1: Easter Story
Year 1 have been looking at correctly sequencing pictures from the Easter story. They have been remembering significant events including the resurrection and created some artworks to reflect this.
Year 1 Toy Story Dance
Year 1 have been practising different dance moves for different characters in the Toy Story movies. They worked in their house teams today to create their own moves and performed these to the rest of the class. We all got to learn the dance moves from each team at the end of the lesson and they loved it!
Year 1- Science Volcano experiment
Wow what a exciting afternoon we had on Monday. We made a volcano by using bicarbonate of soda, food colouring, water and vinegar. We mixed all our ingredients inside before taking it outside to watch it explode. Look closely at our pictures to see our shocked faces!
Year 1- Garden Centre Visit
On Tuesday morning we walked down to ‘Four Seasons Garden Centre’ in preparation for our next science topic about plants. We found out lots of information about plants and the seasons they grow in. At the end of our tour around the garden centre we purchased some seeds to bring back to school to watch them grow.
Year 1: Garden Centre Visit Thank you!
We would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone at “Four Seasons Garden Centre” for making us all feel welcome. Sonia said she was really pleased with how we respected the garden centre and how well they represented our school. Sonia gave us some free gifts to bring back to school (Planters, soil and flowers) we can’t wait to plant these.
Year 1 Phonics Different Ways of Making the ‘ea’ Sound
Last week in phonics we looked at the different ways to make the phase 5 ‘ea’ sound and practised reading and writing words with these different graphemes. We also played some Bug Club games to see if we could read words with different amounts of syllables in them using the various different ways to make the ‘ea’ sound and looked back at the ‘ee’ sound they learnt in Reception last year.
Year 1 Police Safety Talk
Today Year 1 met PCSO Gail, PCSO John and PCSO Darren the bear to talk about what the police do, stranger danger and how to stay safe in our community. They asked some super questions, tried on a police vest and were shown the equipment the police wear to communicate and capture evidence whilst working. We looked at how the police get around and the different vehicles they might use. We also all got a photo and cuddle with Darren the bear.
Year 1- Sound of the day!
Today’s sound of the day ‘z’. We sounded out lots of words with the ‘z’ sound. Super sounding out year 1!
Year 1- Science week live lesson
Year 1 watched a science farm live lesson as part of British Science Week. Our lesson was all about tractors and the materials they are made from and why they are made from that material. We had lots of questions to answer throughout the lesson all about materials. We also found out lots of interesting facts about farming life, plants and tractors!
Year 1 Science- Testing the strength of materials
So now it was time to test our houses. We used a jug of water to see if our houses were waterproof and a hair dryer to see if it could survive the hurricane. We loved creating and testing our houses to see which materials would be the most suitable in a hurricane.
Year 1- Creating a structure for testing
In Science this week we have created our own house made from different materials. We had to create a house that would be waterproof and strong enough to survive a hurricane. We used cardboard, tinfoil, cello tape, fabric, and cellophane.
